| Fleas....what is the best thing to get rid of them? Last week we found fleas on our little Gracie. She does not go outside much and the only place she goes is either in the yard or to the groomers. Other family members have dogs...could they have carried them to my house when visiting? We have not experienced this since we have had her until now. DH put some stuff on her bought from walmart that you put between the shoulder blades on the back. This stuff is supposed to work for a month. A day before putting this on her he gave her a flea bath. Neither is helping. The bottle says to use the flea shampoo weekly. We are doing this again tonight. Any recommendations on what to use. She is going to the groomers next Friday...and will get her flea dipped. Thanks, Heather |

| I use frontline plus with mine and it works Oops, i forgot to say, dips dry the coat and so does a lot of the flea shampoos so if you're thinking about growing a full coat this is something to think about!

| if your little one has had fleas for awhile without you knowing you are going to have to deflea your house....cause they can live by biting you.....we went through this a couple of years ago....we had to bomb our house with this stuff the vet gave us ....twice.... I'm afraid it is not to cheap....and you have to cover things up in the kitchen or if you have little children cover their toys..etc...sorry to hear about your fleas......they are not fun to get rid of..... |

| I use frontline plus on Reyna...we went camping and she came back with flea's AND ticks...right away we went to the vet and they gave me Frontline for her....within a few hours the flea's and ticks were dried out and fell off. No problems ever since...we still use it even though she is inside ALL day...I don't want to take any chances when we go out for walks. But waste no time...get ur doggie on something...the situation only gets worse with flea's! Good luck! |

| I use Advantage or Advantix , both work great. My Vet commented that my dogs don't have fleas, nor any sign. They both work great.

| Program Pills There is a monthly preventative once you lose the fleas. Yitzee is about to be started on this. However, you have to get rid of the fleas first. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I would be careful about Flea products.....use Frontline or Advantix brands - NO HARTZ ...they are very toxic to small animals!! Also - DAWN Dish Washing Detergent will kill fleas on contact....you can add it to your yorkies normal shampoo and it's susposed to kill them immediately...Dawn is becoming very popular for Flea control - Here is a link - http://my.homewithgod.com/mkcathy/household/animal.html Also - I copied this from that site - Kills fleas instantly. Dawn Dish Washing Liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas. You can also put a bowl of water with dawn in it under a light which will attract them and they drown. |

| Thanks for the advice, villette. I used both Advantage and Frontline, and the fleas are back the next day. Even tried flea shampoo....next day, they're back. |

But I do second the Dawn Soap... My friend used it and I saw the fleas jump dead off. And if you want to prevent your doggie from getting fleas I read Neem Oil is good shampoo. Or anything with Neem/Neem Oil will do. | |

| Revolution My boys are 18 months old, around other dogs and cats and I have never seen a flea on any of them (my cat either). I use the Revolution which protects against fleas, ticks, mange, mites and heartworm. It is relatively inexpensive, $10 per month per dog. I would never use a Hartz product as I have heard nothing but horror stories about them. I also have been told that if you have fleas in your yard, to mix Dawn dishwashing soap with water and put in a lawn sprayer and spray your yard, harmless to pets and it will kill the fleas. Good luck. |

| Since we're on the subject of fleas...I have a question. Are u supposed to treat them year round? Cause I've heard w/ heartworm pills they don't need it in the winter cause there are no mosquitos. Is it the same w/ flea medications? |
