| Ellie was on it for quite some time. She would throw up every week or two for no reason (we thought it was just a normal dog thing), her nose was constantly warm, and a patch of her fur was kind of rough. After changing foods for an unrelated reason, all of that stuff stopped. I think it is just that some dogs don't do well on certain foods. Anyway, IMO, I'd rather feed something without by-products.

| I fed Science Diet for years before I joined YT and started learning about foods. My yorkies did like it alright. Now, I would not choose to feed it. But, I do think it is better than Iams. Iams is a very poor food imo.

| We tried all the expensive dog foods, even raw, and unfortunately my girl continued to have digestive/poop problems so our vet put them on Hills Science Diet I/D. We've added the J/D to it. I haven't had any problems with it. I would have loved to feed them the better quality food but I have to give them what suits their system. I don't think it'll hurt giving it to your baby but I'd ask your vet just to make sure. Plus... you should ease your baby off one food to another - start mixing a little of the new one into the old food and continue to increase the new one. That way your baby's system has time to adjust to the change.

| Dog Food Reviews - Science Diet Nature's Best Puppy Original (Archived) - Powered by ReviewPost The Dog Food Project - Identifying better products this website tells you what to avoid in dog food and what to look for no offense but both are HORRIBLE DOG FOODS Meat by-products : are parts of slaughtered animals, not including meat. These include lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, liver, blood, bone, and stomach and intestines freed of their contents. It does not include hair, horns, teeth, or hooves. The definition for meat by-products by the Association of American Feed Control Officials is: The non-rendered, parts, other than meat, derived from slaughtered mammals. It includes, but is not limited to, lungs, spleen, kidneys, brain, livers, blood, bone, partially defatted low temperature fatty tissue, and stomachs and intestines freed of their contents. It does not include hair, horns, teeth and hoofs. WHAT TO AVIOD IN DOG FOOD: ►All generic meat ingredients that do not indicate a species (meat, meat byproducts, meat byproduct meal, meat meal, meat & bone meal, blood meal, fish, fish meal, poultry, poultry byproducts, poultry meal, poultry byproduct meal, liver, liver meal, glandular meal etc.) ►Byproduct meals, even if a species is identified (chicken/beef/turkey/lamb byproduct meal etc.), since highly questionable ingredients may be used in these rendered products. ►Any food that contains corn (ground or otherwise) as a first ingredient, especially if corn gluten meal is also a main ingredient and no concentrated source of identified meat protein (e.g. chicken meal, lamb meal etc.) is present. ► Corn gluten or soy(bean) meal as main ingredients. Note: Not all dogs tolerate soy products! Small amounts, especially of organic soy, are okay as long as a dog is not sensitive. There are only very few products on the market that include high quality soy ingredients, none of them sold at grocery stores or mass retailers Dog Foods I Would recommend Orijen, Acana, Evo, Blue Buffalo I feed Orijen And Acana to Polo I only want to feed what is best for him here is the website Champion Petfoods | Home |

| science diet; iams... have bad ingredients that are not healthy for the dogs. try natural food that doesn't have any "meal, corn, byproducts.." in the ingredients.

| While I'm sure the OP appreciates your expertise in dog food, she was asking about this particular brand.

| Unless you are planning on changing over, I wouldn't bother with working in another brand just for one bag. Any local shelter would be happy to accept a donation of dog food!

| I fed my puppy Science Diet (small bites) at the recommendation of my vet and she loved it. I have since heard how bad that food is for dogs so I tried several others (including Blue Buffalo which she refused to eat and would literally back away from it). We are now on Royal Canin which takes me some coaxing for her to eat it. She loved science diet and I am debating going back to it since that is the only food she willingly ate. I hate to do that as it is not that good for her but I am sick of trying food and her not liking it. I would say if your dog will eat a better food, to go with something else. It really is not the best food for your puppy. |

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | You know I have 7 furkids, weve tried them all and what works for one doesnt for another and we were always having loose stools from someone. Ive been feeding 6 of mine the SD for small dogs, small bites, light for about 6 months. They get that, barbqued chicken breast, carrots or green beans or some veggie in the morning at 6 and in the evening at 6 or close to it. They all are doing well. The only one I cant do that is Dakota because of his severe food alergies. he eats some veggies and SD ZD, nothing else. Not even treats. Treats for him are carrots or dog food. I feel like with what they get they are getting a balanced diet, and they are all doing soooo much better. So Im just saying what works for one does not always work for all. |
