| Diagnosing LP @ a Year Old? I don't quite understand getting an "all clear", for LP, by two different vets and then, suddenly, having it @ a year old? Does this happen frequently? I even got an all clear from a vet on October 6th, after seeing Apple do a skip or two, while walking...Then a diagnosis (from another vet) of grade 1 LP in both knees on October 19th, after seeing Apple's backend wobbling from side to side, while we were out walking and then she started limping...Once the knee popped back into place, she was walking o.k....I'd like to see how many others have experienced this diagnosis at a year old or even older? |

| Hmm perhaps you should get an xray done. The knees can get worse as they get older or trama can happen at any time and cause it. A grade 1 though doesn't pop out on their own? A grade one means they can manually pop them out with their hands.

| It can be diagnosed later in life, but I would say the vet on Oct. 6 possibly didn't know how to palpate correctly? If she had skipped, then he just must have missed it.

| I can say that Hot Rod was fine last Nov at his annual check up with a grade 1 (15 months) and then he had his surgery at the end of March 2009 (19 mos) with a grade 3.

I hate to say it, but my gut reaction was that the last vet was trying to push me into needless surgery. No specific grounds for this aside from my personal feeling, that and they would not let me see or speak with the "ortho" that examined him and asserted the LP condition. Crazy.

Roxy was dx at 1 year. She started to skip and when I would pick her up you could hear/feel this click. Then she started to limp and carry her leg. She had Grade 3 and Grade 2 (both legs)

| I was thinking about having Apple's knees x-rayed, when she has her spay on the 29th, but I guess that would be useless, since her knees are in place 99.9% of the time...She has only had one episode, last Sunday, and none before or since...I guess I was thinking you could see if the grove was not right...Or is it just to see if the knee cap is actually out and staying out? |

what i learned from working with the surgeons is that some regular vets really don't know how to take the proper x-rays. we'd get some absolutely useless rads from RDVMs and would just have to retake them when the pet came to us. personally i wouldn't worry about her knees so much right now. she's not showing a lot of signs. i'd put her on cosequin or something similar and just watch her. if you think its getting worse after some time then take her to an orthopedic surgeon for an evaluation and x-rays. they'd know best.
