| Kennel cough shot, vaccinations & grooming question Hello everyone! I now have had my "Little Betty Boop" for 5 days. I haven't posted pictures because my camera is not working at the moment. She is 14-1/2 weeks old and weighs in at 2.4 lbs. 1. I want to get her groomed because she looks a little shaggy. The breeder gave her 3 rounds of vaccinations, but the vet said she should have another round at 16 weeks old.....He said studies have shown that the shots do not last a complete year unless the puppy has had a round at 16 weeks old. What are your thoughts? 2. Do I need to get her kennel cough before I take her to get groomed? The groomer's pets are all vaccinated for kennel cough and she said she makes sure that no one comes into her shop that has a sneezing and coughing dog. She also said she would trim the ears to try and help her hold them up. If she was any cuter, I don't think I could stand it!!!! 3. I also found an holistic dog food at Petco called Nutro Ultra. The first ingredient is Chicken Meal, Whole Brown Rice, Ground Rice, Rice Bran, Lambb Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken Fat, soybean oil, fruits, veggies, etc etc. Anyone heard of this? Thanks for your input! |

| Grooming should be fine. Jackson only had three sets of shots total at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 15/16 weeks. He got groomed at a little over 4 mo. old. Jackson never got the kennel cough vaccine but the groomer he goes to is really small and usually only one or two dogs at a time. Most groomers, however, will require it. Also, Nutro is not a good food. Jackson ate it for a brief brief period of time and nothing ever happened (maybe a week he ate it, if that). But there are SO many dogs that have died from it and it's been recalled a few times. Google Nutro Consumer Affairs. I would recommend Merrick's, Nature's Variety, Wellness, etc. Check Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble Good luck!

| The groomer I will be taking Boop to is very small, but very busy. I just want a quick trim.....no bath. This groomer said she is very strict about who comes into her place. If they don't have vaccinations or if they are sneezing/coughing, she will ask them to leave. Nutro killed dogs? Wow! She has been eating Eukanuba and likes it. Her vet said it was an excellent food. If I remember correctly, someone on this board said Eukanuba wasn't the best food around. I've heard of the foods you mentioned (Wellness, etc). Where do you find these? They're not sold in pet stores, are they? |

| I vaccinate mine at 9 12 and 16. Kennel cough is very contagious, but really is not that serious. It is like a human cold. Your vet would probably put them on an antibiotic to prevent pneumonia, but the actual kennel cough will run it's course in 2 to 3 weeks. Your dog can actually get kennel cough just walking through the vets waiting room if there is a sick dog in there. |

| I definitely would not be feeding your pet anymore Nutro right now, there was another pet food recall on September 30. A construction hat fell into the production line and pieces of plastic may be mixed in with kibble destined for California and Arizona. Not good. |

| [QUOTE=enchilila;2837279]Hello everyone! I now have had my "Little Betty Boop" for 5 days. I haven't posted pictures because my camera is not working at the moment. What are your thoughts? i suggest to try to cut her hair yourself; she' s too young to go the groomer. remember many dogs haver been there and you never know what she can catch; you can get the trimmer or just a simple small hair scisor and trim a bit. 2. Do I need to get her kennel cough before I take her to get groomed? The groomer's pets are all vaccinated for kennel cough and she said she makes sure that no one comes into her shop that has a sneezing and coughing dog. She also said she would trim the ears to try and help her hold them up. If she was any cuter, I don't think I could stand it!!!! i am kind of biased again the bortedella vaccine; because since my dog got it; she got really sick; and now i stay away from it, since it only provides short term immunity; however, it' s up to you of course. you can read about the risks and benefits Vaccines and Vaccination Schedule for Puppies and Dogs# 3. I also found an holistic dog food at Petco called Nutro Ultra. The first ingredient is Chicken Meal, Whole Brown Rice, Ground Rice, Rice Bran, Lambb Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Chicken Fat, soybean oil, fruits, veggies, etc etc. Anyone heard of this? nutro is not a good food; stay away from any ingredient that cotains meal, corn, gluten, soy... i use the honest kitchen force formula, which is human grade food; however, there are many good food in the stores; make sure the first ingredient is a real whole protein, like chicken, lamb, salmon.. good luck!
