| Eating Issues Again: Switching Foods I'm having eating issues with Maxwell once again. Are ya'll dogs picky of what they eat~? Some lady in the park I met yesterday, told me she literally cooks for her dogs. I am not about to cook for him. I've been trying to switch him from "Royal Canin" to "Chef Michael", but it isn't working. I'm going to try "Blue" from the Blue Buffalo Company as soon as I get the $5 coupon in the mail. I need some suggestions. Maybe I messed him up yesterday by getting him some grill KFC. The Vet told me it would be okay in the past, but once I give him "real food", he doesn't want his. Then again, he hasn't been eating much of his "Royal Canin" since like June or so, unless I spike it up with green beans, cottage cheese, or something. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Fastfood (KFC and the like) are not healthy for your dog. I suggest you pick a nutritional food and stick to it. Dogs are like kids and will push their limits to get their way. I don't home cook but I feed Merricks Before Grain. You should try and limit your food changes as that will upset their stomach and also possibly cause you to have a finicky eater. Good luck.

| Well some folks here have spoke about cooking for their dog, I believe. He hasn't eaten his food today, but when we played ball he did get a few nibbles of it in the scooper I had. Also, I don't have any kids and I am not aware of the problems of eating with them. |

| Have you tried Nature's Variety Raw? It's not what you think...it's like small 1 oz. little squares that you thaw out overnight in the fridge, then feed the next day...I also give apple slightly cooked green beans, carrots or a slice of apple w/it...Not much, because they're so little...She used to be the pickiest dog on the planet, 'till I switched her to raw and veges and fruit...Now she does dances for her meals...It's totally amazing!!!! |

| kfc or any take out food is high in fat and sodium and can cause gastritis, pancreatitis and other problems; also that and switching food many times will make the dog very picky eater; so it's best to choose a healthy dog food and stick to it. i feed mine the honest kitchen force formula; dehydrated raw food ; it's easy to make and it's human grade food and dogs love it. www.thehonestkitchen.com; u can email them and get free samples. if you want to feed the dog human food; it's best to cook boiled chicken, rice and carrots without any seasoning; or baby gerber food if he doesnt want to eat at all; i did that for a while when my dog was sick; u can use the beef, banana, apple gerber baby food; mix a bit of each with cooked oatmeal; good luck

| I agree with everyone else about picking a good kibble and sticking with it. If you are interested in exploring alternative feeding methods there are many options. You can homecook, which isn't as hard or strange as you may think. I think many YT members here homecook and they spend probably one day every couple of weeks preparing weeks and weeks worth of food. You just have to make sure you are supplementing correctly. If you want to try raw, there is pre-made raw, like Sweet Apple suggested, or prey-model raw, which we do. It's all about what you feel comfortable feeding your dog. Do some searching around on this forum and you'll find some great suggestions for all three of those methods.
