| Adonis has Pancreatitis Adonis is 9 years old. He was feeling pretty bad and vomiting some over the weekend. I knew Sunday night, when he didn't get in the bed with me, we were going to the Vet first thing Monday morning. Over the weekend, he'd thrown up a few times. I tired canned, thinking it was his teeth bothering him. He did that one day. Next day, wouldn't eat. I fixed chicken and rice. He ate some, but not much sunday. By sunday night, he wouldn't eat at all. Good thing I did. They did blood work, said he had Pancreatitis. They kept him over night (said may be 3 nights). Took away food and fluids and put him on antibiodics. When he asked what I'd been feeding him, I told them Canidae usually. I'd given him some canned over the weekend one day, then Chicken and rice last. Doc was pretty happy I'd been giving him chicken and rice, good bland food. He wants him on that for the next 2 days. After that, I need to find the new food we'll be using for the rest of his life. So I have learned something from you all I went to see Adonis 2 more times yesterday, since my vet isn't far at all from here. They wanted me to bring chicken and rice with me this morning. I took him some this morning. He ate fine. I was giving him a teaspoon, then waiting 15 minutes and doing again. Adonis was SO much better when I walked in there this morning! They said he could probably come home this afternoon. I went back at noon, and vet said he could go home. Last night, I spent hours here on YT, learning what I could about pancreatitis. I don't do home cooking at all (except if he's sick like this last weekend and just chicken and rice). Nor do I want to venture into home cooked. I see several here use Purina HA or EN, and their babies have been successful with it. Doc said Science diet, I said.....is purina ok instead? He was ok with it. I'd read a lot of posts last night about this. Learned a lot. Except I didn't write down what all the letters stood for. Now I need to know whether to go with HA or EN for pancreatitis? Thank God for you all, and all the posts here about it. I got a good education reading them last night. |
