Default Paw Naturaw Raw Medallions -- What do you think?

While searching online for locally made raw grinds today I stumbled across this brand that I am really interested in. We are still thinking about doing PMR but I would like to have an alternative, either my own grind or pre-made raw for the mornings/when we travel, etc. The two things I really like are that it is USDA-approved organic and is rather affordable. I can get a 3.5lb bag for around $15. Compared to $56 for a 4lb bag of Primal and $56 for a 3lb bag of Nature's Variety (on PetFoodDirect.com), that is a great deal. Of course, I haven't checked the local stores that carry Nature's Variety, it may be cheaper there.

Raw feeders/nutrition experts, let me know if this is too good to be true! I refuse to skimp on quality just for price but if it really is a good product, I am beyond excited to have found it! Has anybody else heard of this company or use it?

I buy Nature's Variety, locally, and pay anywhere from 15.99 - 19.99 for a 3 lb. bag (approximately 48 medallions)....The chicken is the least expensive...Wow, did I read that right $56.00 for 3 lb. from direct...that's horrible

Okay I should have checked into the local vendors. I wonder why Pet Food Supplies Dog Cat Bird ... PetFoodDirect.com charges so much? Thanks for clearing that up

Hi Diana! In Tulsa, I buy my NV raw medallions at Southern Agriculture for about $16/3# bag. Do you have this store in Norman? If not, I bet you have a feed/ag supply store or a pet boutique of some kind that carries NV raw. I noticed those prices on PetfoodDirect.com, too. I have no idea why the prices are so outrageous. That's why I've never tried Primal - no body local carries it and I'm sure not paying that much for it online.

Wow that price is crazy! I pay 10 dollars for a 3lb bag which has 48 medallions in it, but I buy it from my vet so maybe that's why it's so cheap. It probably costs alot to ship it since they are frozen. Hopefully you find a place locally

Wow, that your vet carries this wonderful food speaks volumes about him/her!!! Most vets are still in the dark ages, concerning nutrition for our litte ones...

We've tried paw naturaw and really didn't like it. The quality seemed poor and Kona's poo which in normally really firm and little when eating raw was looser and more on this food. Kind of like his poo when he was on kibble. We actually tossed it and went back to nv. It's weird though because it didn't make sense how raw could be poor quality. Oh also, his coat was less shiny and he had more eye gunk when he was on it, again like he did when he was eating kibble.

Never heard it... Other brands of pre-mixes/premade raw that I like which I find are also reasonably priced are Dr. Harvey's Canine Health, Sojo's Grain Free, and Honest Kitchen - for premixes. Premade raw brands that I like as alternatives to Primal and NV are: Answer's Pet Food and Aunt Jeni's Home Made 4 Life Raw Dog Food.

Frozen foods just cost more to transport and store.. .

We sell a ton of different Raw Foods, but Vital Essentials is the one my dogs like the most.

thanks for the feedback.

Sure, first off there are a few Answer Pet Foods. Answer Pet Food DETAILED is one that is complete and doesn't need any additional supplement and/or veggies. Answer Pet Food STRAIGHT is a diet you add additional supplements and/or veggies to - I think they only have Chicken and Beef and Pork formulas available at this time. The Answer Pet food DETAILED also comes in nibbles, patties or sausages if preferred.
You can read more about the ingredients in both at their website - Answers Raw Pet Food Company: Our Products

Aunt Jeni's is great. It's complete and balanced and one does not have to add any supplements. It also comes in a variety of flavors too including: chicken, lamb, beef, rabbit, turkey and goat.

One can also lightly cook Aunt Jeni's food - although feeding it raw is recommended, but for those that are "paranoid" or "afraid" it's a good alternative to slowly introduce one's dog and self to raw food. Aunt Jeni's has a lower meat ratio than Answers Pet food. The chicken, lamb, beef and rabbit varieties are made in a 65:35 ratio of meat, organs & bones to vegetables, eggs, & "extra" ingredients. Aunt Jeni's Turkey and Goat formulas are made in a 75:25 ratio of meat, organs & bones to vegetables, fruits and seeds/nuts.

Here's some facts from the website:
Aunt Jeni's Home Made 4 Life Raw Dog Food Benefits

Food is made in their own facility, where they practice strict safety precautions and are stringent about keeping sanitary working conditions.

They maintain their work area at a colder temperature, and their meats never rise above freezing temperatures. They even use environmentally-friendly cleansers and disinfectants, along with 200 degree hot water for cleanup.
All ingredients in this natural dog food are human-grade and are personally inspected for freshness and quality.
Comes in recyclable plastic containers that are very storable and stackable and from which food is very easily scooped and dispensed.
Contains organic ingredients.
Does not contain synthetic vitamins. Derives all of its nutrition from whole food sources!
Healthy & wholesome, with NO preservatives, NO additives and NO chemicals.
Suits every stage of your pet's life.
Provides a balanced diet, with maximum digestion and nutrient availability.
Results in healthier skin, glossier coat, cleaner teeth and fresher breath.
Hope that helps.

thanks so much for this info; i emailed jeni yesterday and she answered many of my questions; so i ended up buying the food;i will be cooking it at first to introduce it; since my dog has ibd and her gi system is very sensitive. she's also on prednisone so i am afraid she will get hurt by whatever bacteria is in the food if any. thanks again
