| Tear Stains - Vinegar? I did a search for this and found people doing vinegar. However, different kinds. Is it supposed to be apple cider or plain? And how much? I free feed and water so how do I know if he is getting enough of it? I guess Im going to try distilled water and see if that makes a difference too.

| I started using the apple cider vinegar after reading a thread about it. It was recommended 1 tsp for 1 cup water. I also use distilled water. The water helped some and the vinegar has also. Since adding vinegar it has helped with Bogie and Jada's breath also.

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | I'm trying this again too. She wouldn't touch the water last time. I have read using both, so I was confused too. ACV or white vinegar?? Most say ACV. I also read recently about giving 1/2 tablet Tums a day.

| Yes, the main reason I was giving ACV to my yorkies is because I read that it helps their joints and acts as a flea repellant. Since I started putting ACV in their water, I noticed that one of my yorkies eye gunk went away. He always had a lot of eye gunk and I would always have to clean it. This was an added bonus of putting ACV as I wansn't expecting that. It's been maybe about 3 weeks since I started using ACV and so far it has been doing wonders for his eyes.

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | The vinegar is used in the water for drinking. NOT for use around their eyes!

My little Shadow Donating YT Member | oh, no way....don't be. Vinegar is used for so many things. Some do use a little vinegar in their hair for skin issues, I've read. I just wouldn't use it around their eyes at all. I've read about alot of pastes and mixes of products to use for tear staining, but I would be too afraid of harming their eyes.

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | Since I read the original message, I have been putting apple cider vinegar into my dogs water dishes. Here's what I have noticed: for the English Cocker - there has a been a noticable reduction in gunk in her eyes; for my Yorkie - I hardly see anything that I would consider gunk; and for the Maltese, I'm not seeing a lot of tears that discolor her fur. In other words, for my dogs, it works. Thanks for the apple cider hint.

| I am wondering why AVC that makes the tears go away in yorkies. I also read somewhere that if you put a little on their neck where they cant get at it that helps too. |

| IMO no one should be doing this until you have read up on using vinegar...it can harm some dogs...for the most part it should be an organic vinegar like Braggs to get the read benefits.
