| How many of your furbabies threw up after their 1st or any Rabies shot(within 2 days) Hey there everyone, just wondering how common it is for our babys to vomit within 48 hours of the shot. Also does anyone know if the shot is the same amount for all dog sizes, I never thought to ask the vet and saw a blurb on the net about it being the same. Anyone totally against this shot? Eva just had hers yesterday, she is five months. She threw up today but otherwise seems fine. It was directly from waking from a nap. Other than car sickness she has never thrown up. I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.

| That can happen. It isn't seen tons though. Are her gums pink? The same amount is given to dogs of all sizes. It takes a certain amount to acquire an immune response, so size doesn't really matter. It is very potent though and I don't like it either. Here in the US it is mandatory, but I thought it was optional in BC, so you wouldn't have to give it if you don't want to.

| Winston got severely sick when he got his rabies shot. About 5 hours after he got it he threw up 7 times in a 30 minute time period. He was on pedialite from 4pm that day until midnight that night. I told the vet about it and he said just keep him on the pedilyte and if he wasn't better the next day to bring him in. He was fine by midnight though. I do believe they give the same amount to a yorkie as they would a great dane...which is REALLY stupid in my opinion. They shoud administer it by weight. I think it essentially is a poisonous shot when they give the same amount to a yorkie.

| Eva's gums are pink. She ate her supper fine, seems to be sleeping a bit more. So I should let her drink all she wants then. I assumed it was Mandatory here because it is sooo pushed. I have tried to find info online if there is a bylaw or something but not having too much luck. Law or not, I have read so much about it I will probaby hold off on another booster for many many years. Apparently it is supposed to last for 7 years. Is everything about money, man!

| Do you mean Pedilyte like the orange flavoured drink for kids? Or is there something especially for dogs?

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Taffy vomited as we drove into the driveway after getting her rabies shot. (A couple of months prior to that she had ridden 7 hours home from the breeder's without getting sick. The vet's was less than a mile from home.) However, she vomited twice on our trip back to the breeder's to board her for our trip. We wanted to board her where she would feel "at home" and treated as family. (Plus, it gave her an opportunity to reunite not only with her first human mom and dad, but also her canine mom and dad and at least one sibling.) Our breeder explained the vomiting in a way that made total sense to me. She said that Taffy was picking up on our nervousness. Whether that's the whole picture or not, it makes alot of sense in our situation. I was apprehensive before the rabies shot and very sad/nervous about leaving her for our trip. The day before we left to take her for boarding, I was silently crying as I typed an email to someone about boarding her and she jumped up into my lap, laid down, and started licking my arm as I typed. She had never done that before. It was her way of comforting me, I think. I have no doubt she tuned into my attack of nerves prior to her rabies shot, too. She is quite sensitive and intuitive...and did I mention that she is also very, very smart? (Plus, she's beautiful and has just the right amount of mischief in her personality to keep us from getting bored. I suppose there's no need to mention we haven't made the trip back to get her yet and I am missing her terribly.) Last edited by TOY; 09-26-2009 at 08:57 PM. |

| It is the same thing that's used for kids. It's clear.

| Bijou got her Rabies shot last week, at 12 weeks of age. I thought that was a little young, but the vet said she was old enough. She didn't have any reaction to it at all, but my vet only gives two shots at a time to puppies her size. Could it be that your baby had too many shots given at once?

| Oh ok thanks, I will definitely get some to have on hand then. Eva seems fine now, she is drinking her regular amount today too. I really don't like shots. When my kids were babies and got them I was very uncomfortable with it as well.

She only had the Rabies shot. We had postponed it due to her continuous ear infections, poor little thing...She is doing much better now I was glad she was going to be 5 months instead of 4 which is when it is given here...3 months is so young, I would have been a basket case.
