| Those who feed RAW I need help!! Hi everyone... Snickers has been doing incredibly well so I have not had a question in ages but things are changing!!! Recently he is not so into his raw. He doesn't get as excited no matter what the flavor. For the last few days he has only eaten his meal once a day. This is scaring me!! He always has kibble out and does eat in once in a blue moon, but is him eating once a day NORMAL?? Snickers is 1 year and 2 months old. I know some larger breed dogs eat only once a day once they reach adulthood but Snick is only 3.5 or 4lbs max on a good day, and him eating once a day is scaring me. He does have an afternoon snack of EVO biscuits but he used to LOVE his raw and eat heartily twice a day every day. I am going to switch his kibble to see if he eats more. I have had him on Evo forever (both flavors) so I think I'm gonna try NV Instinct Rabbit. Is this outsourced from China? I heard the NV RAW RABBIT is from CHINA!! UGH!!!!! I've tried Orijen, he is not a fan. Geez! I'm bummed! I've tried CORE too, not a taker. Hopefully he will be back to his old eating habits soon. Any suggestions are welcome... Thanks everyone- Worried!! -Snick & Viv

| So what is exactly your schedule of feeding? You mentioned you leave the kibble out, is that correct? Would your pup eat raw twice a day on top of that? And now he only eats it at night? Or is he only eating the kibble? If his appetite is slowing down he could only be going for the food that has a bit more flavor to it (kibble) as raw food can be very bland in comparison. My dog, Isla, is about 6 lbs and only eats once a day minus snacks (bits of whatever meat we may be eating that's leftover). I don't feed her any kibble, only raw, and she will only eat once a day. If she's in the backyard with the big dogs then she will eat most anything I put in front of her just so the big dogs don't get it! But when we went to the lake this summer we didn't bring the big dogs and Isla didn't eat her raw for 2 days being there wasn't any comptetion! I was a bit stressed! She did get scraps from our plates (only what's dog appropriate, mind you) and she eventually ate on the 3rd day but I had to sit next to her. She also didn't eat as much in quantity the entire trip. So maybe yours doesn't need as much food as you think. Has anything else changed? Energy? Sleepiness? Mood? If not, don't worry too much. Maybe he's just leveling off. If you're determined that he eat raw, maybe you'll have to cut out the kibble so that he'll eat the raw. Good luck!

| Thanks for your response!! Feeding schedule: 6:30am-raw 11:30am-2 Evo Biscuit snacks 5:30pm-raw Kibble out 24/7-barely ever eats it, will randomly nibble about 2 times a week. I might cut out the biscuits but dont want to. Snick will sometimes eat his raw breakfast and sometime will only eat his raw dinner and sometimes both.

| Well, it sounds as if he's okay. As long as there aren't any other alarming changes that are taking place alongside his eating changes. If that's the case, then I'd call the vet. However, if his weight and all else is fine I wouldn't worry too much. Like I said before, Isla usually only eats once a day. Sometimes she even skips a day. And when she does eat, some days it's only a chicken wing. It doesn't sound like a lot, but her energy is great, her weight stays the same, etc. I just think she may not be having a hungry day that day. And then somedays she wants to eat twice. It can go that way on raw. My big dogs will sometimes try to hide their food if they had an exceptionally large meal the day before. The only thing about kibble I'm going to say is that you need to be careful when you feed it to him if you're feeding alongside of raw. If you feed kibble within about 12 hours before you do raw, since kibble takes longer to digest than raw it forces the raw to stay in the system longer than it needs to making it a possible threat for upset stomach. I saw on a thread here that if you plan to feed that way to separate feeding kibble early in the day and then raw later. Never together. I hope that helps and I hope your pup is fine! Try not to worry too much, though, unless there are other areas of concern alongside his eating patterns.

| When Zoe was about 2, she did the same thing. I just started feeding her once a day. But Zoe is almost 6 lbs. Not sure I would recommend that for your little guy but maybe you could feed him a small meal in the am and then a bigger meal in the evening? And maybe cut out the free feeding? Good luck whatever you decide to do! |
