| Benedryl dose? Does anyone know the liquid benedryl dose for a 9 and 10 lb. yorkie? I bought pills from my vet and it cost me a small forture and the pills lasted a week. Thank you.

| I had a little female schnauzer that passed away last year from cancer. SHe had allergies really bad. I would give her about 1/2 tsp. in a syringe. She weighed about 16lbs. I am always afraid of overdosing, so I probably could have given her alittle more but I don't like to over use Benedryl anyway. My little 2yr. yorkie, I think, has allergies because I have seen no fleas but she is itchy. I would give her about 1/4 tsp. She weighs alittle over 8lbs. (she is over weight) lol!!! But, check with your vet to be sure. Allergies are terrible. I have given my schnauzers the shots but even they don't last. I just hate medicating them all the time. |

| The formula for figuring out the dosage for Childrens Liquid Benadryl is: Your dogs body weight times 5 divided by 12.5 = dose in cc/ml To figure out your dogs body weight you have to convert ounces to pounds... EX: a dog that weighs 4 pounds 10 ounces would weigh 4.625 pounds you must take the 10 ounces and divide by 16 then add the 4 pounds... 10 divided by 16 = .625 + 4 =4.625 4.625 X 5 divided by 12.5 =1.85 cc/ml It can be given every eight hours.

| My 7 pounder Buttons has allergies and he takes 1/2 of a tablet in the morning and the other 1/2 at night. Each 1/2 is 12.5 mg. of the regular Benadryl (sp) He has stopped itching as much.

| And as far as giving them constant medication, I talked to my vet about this. She said this type of medication (over the counter Benadryl) does not accumulate in their body. Once so stop giving it to them, in 24 hours it is gone. So, I felt better about giving it to them. |
