| Vaccination Question Sophie has an appointment to get her last set of shots on Friday. Am I correct that she will need the 5 in 1? The vet says he recommends Lepto and Corona if we are going to take her outside since we live out in the country, but DH and I have decided that she will only be outside a limited amount of time and that she doesn't need it. She has had the 7 in 1 before we got her and didn't have a reaction to it from what we understand, but we are still deciding against the Lepto & corona. Also, should she get her rabies and bordatella at the same time as these final vaccines? She will be going to the groomers so she has to have the bordatella since they require it. I've done some searches but I didn't see the specific question/answer I was looking for. Any help is appreciated. |

| Lepto is a big debate. Only you and the vet can really decide that. If I were to give it, I'd give it as a single without any other vaccines. The rabies should never be given on the same day as any other vaccine.

| Both Lepto and Corona are considered non-core vaccines and only recommended if the area you live in is highly infected and they will be exposed constantly. For extra safety, vaccines should always be given separately and at least two weeks apart.

My furkids Donating Member | My vet will NOT give lepto to small dogs...My feeling is if it isn't a needed vaccine then I don't have them get it. I have titers done on the girls every year...If they had a titer for rabies they would get that done too...I don't like having them get vaccines every year....I don't really think it's necessary. We don't get them every year so why should they. If the titer comes back and they are showing low antibodies then they get the vaccine..This is Sadies second year of NOT needing vaccinations.

| Thanks for your replies. I'm going to call them Monday and confirm the vaccines that will be given. Is it the 5 in 1 that I should ask for? |

My furkids Donating Member | I know the lepto is but not sure on the corona...you may want to discuss this with your vet.

| If you read this sticky it might answer a lot of your questions. It is posted under Yorkie Health & Diet. I am a believer that you should really understand what vaccines you want your pet to have because it is a known fact vets will over vaccinate pets. If you go ahead and have your little one have a lepto shot please do not leave the vets office for at least 30 minutes so if there is a reaction the vet can do something immediately. Many Yorkies have died from receiving this shot. Sticky: VACCINES - An Overview

| Corona only affects puppies. Skip this vaccine, it's very rare & is not needed after 6 weeks old. There's more chance of a reaction than it being helpful. Rabies & Bordatella should be done 2 weeks apart. One of Mimi's pups had a mild reaction to the DHPP + Bordatella.
