| When to start flea treatment, heartworm preventative ect Miley is 9 weeks old and weights 1.7 My vet reccommended she only have a half of a vaccination due to her size and said not to start her on anything at this point. He is my old vet, I went to him because my new vet was out of his office the day I got Miley..My old vet has already proven to me he is an idiot but for shots he was my only choice that day and I didn't even allow him to give it toher or touch her. I went in and got the shot myself because I didn't even trust him touching her. Not to menton some may think i'm crazy but I don'tlike taking a new pup to the vet til they are ready for their rabies cause i'm always scared my pup will pick something up at the office..paranoid I know lol So my queestion is at what age and weight do you feel is good to start the heartworm preventative, flea treatment ect? I live in the country and am totally surrounded by woods so she will def need to have this prevention because even though she is inside most the time I do take her out to potty and will be taking her on walks with my other dogs when she is old enough. Not to mention I have two big dogs that roam our property and woods so I need her protected from anything they may drag in. I'm jsut not sure at what age to start this with herbeing so small.. I could call my new vet but wanted to get some input from you all in case he says yes start her now and it turns out she is too small. I love my new vet but thanks to my old vet and killing my dog that we had for 8 years I am now leary of vets..So I would love some advice on this. I wish my vet I'd had since Iwas a teen hadn't retired..*sob* Last edited by EverythingMiley; 08-18-2009 at 10:13 AM. Reason: forgot to add something |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | It depends on which meds you are giving. Each has an age and weight requirement so make sure you check the box before giving it. Frontline can be given after 8 weeks old. Interceptor can be given to dogs over 2 lbs and older then 4 weeks. Heartgard can be given to any weight as long as the pup is older then 6 weeks. So make sure you check.
