Spaying Has anyone taken their furbaby to a low cost clinic for spaying? My friend highly recommended one. They do not spend the night like at other vet clinics. You drop them off in the morning and pick them up in the evening. I am so terrified of leaving her a night, so an alternative would be this clinic (run by PAWS). I'm sure they do numerous procedures all the time, however, I was just wondering if any of you have used them and if you felt confident with them. Also, can you share your experiences after picking up your furbaby. How were they behaviorwise for the next few days. I've read in a few books that some yorkies (toy breeds) sometimes never wake up from the surgery. That's why I'm so, so terrified. I'm also terrified that she will be mad at me for taking her to the vet and hold a grudge against me. My little baby weights 3.2 lbs and is 4 1/2 months. Is this too early (Paws told me they can schedule her for March). I just wanted to get your opinions before I make the appt. I recently took my little girl to the vet to get her rabies shot and she was crying, not from the needle, but from the little cottonball they swabbed her with!

I believe we have similar clinics over here in Wales. They are fine and the work is done by excellent vets. We took Gypsy Rose to a private vet and in Wales it is practically unheard of for them to keep a dog overnight after spaying unless there is a problem and also in most of the USA I've heard that they go home same day? I also wouldn't want to leave my babies overnight! We took Gypsy Rose in the morning first thing (she had no food after a certain time night before and no drink after bedtime) and left her there (that's the hard bit!!), then you go home and cry a lot LOL, wait by the phone and if you're like me you phone them before the time they said...!! When we picked her up she was quite wakeful and glad to see us (I too was afraid that she'd hate us for it!!). Got her home and kept her quiet, she slept a LOT and shook a bit too and I did wonder what I'd done... only telling you this because so many feel like this. BUT the next afternoon she was waiting by the door to go for a walk!! I bought her little baby's "onesies" to wear so that she wouldn't try and get her stitiches out. They came out 10 days later and I will never regret having her spayed.... I hope I remember this in a few months when I have to take her "sister" to be done LOL!! Your baby will be fine... can't advise re the age as over here it's done two months after the 1st season. All the best and let us know how she gets on! Ana xx

Thanks Ana, you've put my mind at ease. I've just been so nervous about it; I get goosebumps just thinking about it. I will most definitely let you know how it goes. My husband is quite fond of her and tells me to get her spayed cause he doesn't want any dogs' paws on his little girl. LOL THanks for sharing your experience I'm sure many newbies like myself will benefit from past experiences.

Hi littlealexa- We just had Annie spayed close to 3 weeks ago. We dropped her off in the morning, she had the surgery around 3ish and we picked her up around 7. When we picked her up she was groggy and so sad looking. I felt so bad for her. I as you was worried about the whole thing for the whole time before the day we took her (as well as during) But it seems to be a fairly simple procedure and they bounce back really quick. I too was worried that her temperment might change and that she would be mad at us. But that wasn't the case at all. When we got home she just went straight to her crate and slept for a bit and then came out a little later and then slept with us on the couch. The vet did not give us that cone thing or anything and she really didn't try going at her stitches. The next morning I would say she was 75% and then the following day she was back to normal. Jumping around (no matter how hard we tried to get her to stop her) and playing like her usual self. Her stitches were removed after 10 days and she has internal ones that should disintigrate after 3-4 weeks. Our vet told us to get her spayed before her first heat. He said sometime between 6-8 months. We had her done at 7.5 months (and 5 lbs). This gave her enough time for her baby teeth to fall out and whichever ones didn't we had pulled at the same time (kill two birds with one stone)

That's another thing I'm dreading...the baby teeth. I know that she's currently teething, so hopefully they all fall out. That's a thought to keep in mind, the teeth pulling. thanks for the input.
