| What is canned pumpkin used for in the diet??? Bailey has Chronic Pancreatitis and I give him canned pumpkin twice a day with his meals plus cod, natural balance fish & potato, supplements, green beans and synovi viatamins. My question is what does the canned pumpkin do for him??? He is a pooping machine ever since I put him on this diet! He poops twice during the day. twice at night and once during the middle of the night. Now sometimes he misses the pad in the middle of the night. I can keep it under control when i'm with him, but can I substitute the pumpkin so he's not pooping so much? It wakes me up to hear him on the pad in the middle of the night... Suggestions/thoughts???

| Pumpkin is high in fiber and can help with both diarrhea and constipation. Since he has pancreatitis, I'm guessing it's to help firm his stools. I'm not sure if everyone who has a pup with pancreatitis feeds this with every meal, or if they feed it only when needed. Twice a day sounds like a lot to me if his poos are normal otherwise.

| pumpkin I read here (somewhere on one of the boards Sorry..not sure which one) that canned pumpkin works as a mild laxative.

| Canned pumpkin (not the pie stuffing kind since it has spices in it) is given to firm up stools, but if given too much, it has the opposite effect. How much are you giving him? Sounds like he's goin too much! Lol Maybe give once a day, about a teaspoon? Green beans are also supposed to firm up stools (fiber) but again, if given too much...too much comin out. I feed mine green beans only once a day in the morning. Only one string per Yorkie (2-3"long chopped up). Maybe give him teaspoon pumpkin for breakfast & green beans for dinner or vise versa.
