| Help! The Cat Poop problem w/complications OK-I've read the great posts that i found w/word search on Cat Poop. And I googled etc. BUT of course, I want a YT opinion not general dog opinion. and if ANY OF YOU KNOW anything about an additive/supplemetn/etc. I can give TO THE CATS (we have 3) that IS SAFE and makes their cat-turd less amazing for Boo - PLEASE help. I AM ALL EARS. Before you suggest basics: unique issue - older arthritic cat so -- Gates won't work, I can't put a lid on the box, can't really move it, or put box up high, and the other tips that usually make sense. Puppy Training is ongoing and "Leave it" is new but succesful but (and big but) - hellloooo --- only IF we see her in that microscopic split nanosecond before she snarfs the dookie like a crackwhore on a pipe. Here's the problem: I've got a 17 yr old cat who is so old we had to use a wide open "puppy" litter box (no lid) 'cause he can't bend enough to realize he was whizzing at 45 degree angle. Even now with a 4 foot litter box and low "lip" entrance he "thinks" he's in the box, he still misses a LOT and we cover the floor w/potty pads. Otherwise He/Cat pees/poops (like a rather manly deposit!) anywhere w/out discretion. we love him and we live w/it. Of course Boo thinks cat dookie is friggin' filet mignon and should be consumed with rapid speed. It is delightful. And Boo has JUST learned the stairs work. So far UP is more itneresting then DOWN, but MAYBE I've got one day before she figures this out. Right now, like a ricochet laser shot - she bee-lines for the catfood. Not a nutrition probelm I don't think. She's in LOVE w/cat food for taste and apparently.....EVEN IF it is the (uh..yuck) "recycled" version!!! GROSS and of course then she wants kisses.

| thanks for the bump -- Thanks a lot for any assistance. Not sure what "bumping" means but sounds like you see the tuff spot I am in. And as predicted -- Boo is already going down and up stairs w/equal ease. I think you are right -- someone must have an answer or suggestion so Poop can come off the menu! Crossing fingers - and we have a call into vet. One thing I read was to put Tabasco sauce on the catpoop and that will "teach" them. But Hellloooo - Uh, two weeks ago, I watched my dog eat sand and thought for sure one time would be enufff. NO - (shocker) instead she kept lapping it up w/a vengeance like a thirsty dog drinks water. As if it were Dom Perignon. She's a smart dog for sure but a weird one.

| You could try to feed your cat pineapple. Cats are so finicky its hard to say if she wwill eat it. You might have to force it down

Any way to babygate puppy away from the hor devours? As in he's behind the gate kitty is not. My solution won't work for you...I babygated the laundry room which contained the litter box and all cats now eat their food on top of a kitchen island. Eventually the babygate was removed...the dogs don't even go inside that room and two have actually missed developing a taste for kitty crunchies

| Oh I just remembered something I did that might work for you. mine dont do it anymore but when they did I went to petsmart and bought this hamster playpen and put several of them around the box. They fold out. It worked perfectly it was low enough the cat could jump in but kept the dogs out.

| I've had two dogs that enjoyed cat poop like it was Godiva chocolate. The only thing that helped was to give the dog (not the cat) vitamin supplements. (Actually, when I opened a new bottle of geriatric dog vit/min last night, it smelled like cat poop--so maybe there's a mineral in cat poop that the dog craves?). My pet sitter (who does it for a living) says this is a common problem. She also says this is evidence that cats are smarter than dogs. |

| So gross - How can these guys be so SMART and eat poop too? Boo eats dead worms the same way - like a delicacy and for gods-sake freaks when i try to take her away from a dead worm. Quote:

| Vitamin-mineral supplement Be glad to. I used to give her Pet Tabs brand. Now that she's older, I give her Geri-Form by Vet-a-Mix company (in Iowa). The vet's office recommended them. I buy them from my vet; but, I'm sure they would be available online. I wonder if it is the selenium, which is also in eggs. They really don't smell good at all (like you know what), and she loves them! On days I remember to give her the tab, she doesn't seem to raid the box. On days I forget, I see her scavenging. It's only anecdotal evidence. |

| Scavenging poop... LOL -- totally the right word!!! "Scavenging" - like a treasure hunt. And hey -- i'll take Anectodal or circumstantial stats!! Good news is (crossing fingers), seems to only hold fascination when she is "reminded" there is poop in the box, as in, when she is in right near the box, but she hasn't been rapidly laser-shot bee-lining to the box the way she does w/cat food. Not to be gross, but we think it is, what my hub calls the "fresh-steamy-ones" or the "moister-meaty-ones" that attract her attentions, (which is really a matter of timing) not the come-home-from-work-older-crusties. We clean every day AM & PM, but here's the kicker -- Old fat-cat is arrogant and know the others will bury his poop so he usually majestically squirrels one off and leaves it until a "lesser-kitty" in the hierarchy hides it. animal kingdom at my house!!!!!! Cracks us up daily!
