| Yet Another Food Question... I have Maddie on California Natural now and she does well with it. I switched her to a limited ingredient diet b/c she was showing signs of allergies. However, I would like to have her on a kibble with more protein. I have done a lot of reading on this and recently discovered that studies many people cite are from old, outdated research that claims high protein percentages in the food are harmful to dogs and do all kinds of damage, especially to the liver. When actaully the fact is that these studies were conducted by feeding dogs foods that were made from poor quality, hard to digest protein sources, such as soy, corn, byproducts, blood meal and so on. (dogfoodproject.com) My question is, is there a quality food that uses limited ingredients but contains a higher protien than her current 22%? I have looked at EVO b/c I really like the Natura company. I am not a cooker so I would prefer to find a food instead of supplementing. Any thoughts are appreciated. |

| I currently feed EVO to Scruffs. He has started not eating it because he knows he can: a. eat Yorkie Yummies and Zuke's and chicken during our daily training session b. sneak other dogs food (from the dogs I pet sit for) c. sneak food from counters.... Sheesh do I have a bad behaved dog. Anyways I have been looking at other foods since he doesn't really like EVO. He didn't like Instinct either (one of the dogs I watched ate Instinct). I wanted to get Horizon Legacy (Dog Food Reviews - Horizon Legacy Adult Canine - Powered by ReviewPost) it sounded the best out of all of the 6 star foods (although I am not a dog food analyzer). I was thinking of trying EVO red meat (thankfully a store here sells those in sample packs). If anyone feeds Horizon Legacy I would LOVE to try just a small plastic bag of it to see if Scruffs likes it. I can pay for shipping.

| I feed Acana Provincial, which has 33% protein. It is grain-free, and one of their three varieties is a fish-based diet, which may be good for dogs with grain or chicken allergies. Acana is made by Champion Pet Foods, the same company that makes Orijen, which is another very good high protein food.

| The only real limited ingredients kibbles that I know of are California Natural and Natural Balance. Both are fairly low in protein. You can always supplement some meat for added protein. You can try other dog foods if your dog will tolerate it. |
