| Homemade yogurt? I posted this on the general board...but maybe it really belongs here! Anyone else? I have been making yogurt at home for about 5 years or so now It's really yummy and EASY....plus with all of the health benefits for tooth and gum disease, I think ALL yorkies and humans should be eating it daily It costs me about $1.00 for a QUART of homemade greek style yogurt or I can pay $6.00 for 16 ounces in the store It can take as little as 4 hours in the "incubator" up to about 36 hours for a more SOUR yogurt. I tend to do longer time for a couple of reasons.1) A TRUE YOGURT (hard to come by) is incubated for at least 24 hours 2) I LIKE the more tart flavor 3) I tend to use mine in place of sour cream or mayo in lots of recipes Anyone else make yogurt or interested in giving it a go? |

| How do you make it? What is the incubator for yogurt like? I love yogurt too and know it is good for us. But so many of the commercial yogurts don't do what they are meant to because they have no live bacteria. They are getting better at labeling for that though so you can make sure to find the real ones. But I would be interested in making some. When I was little mom made her own buttermilk. Always seemed a little gross to have it fermenting and getting those bubbles in it but it tasted good when she was done.

| many dogs are lactose intolerant and goat yogurt is suppose to best for them -- i use non-dairy probiotics due to this as my girl gets diarhea when she is given any lowfat stonefield yogurt |

| you can make goat's milk yogurt (or soy or whatever you need) as well I have a Salton incubator ($20) and add ultra homogenized milk (or boil and cool reg milk) and a few TBS yogurt (after 1st batch you use your own yogurt) and maybe a bit of powdered milk to bump up the calcium. put in Salton and let sit for 4-36 hours depending on health benefits and tartness wanted. Add berries or jam before serving if you'd like The benefits for gum/tooth disease ALONE are worth the effort! |

| My dad gave me a thing that has little containers in it to make yogurt in, but I don't have a clue how to go about it. It didn't come with directions. Now that you brought it up...I would love to make my own. I make my own laundry soap and bar soap. I'm going to make some homemade butter soon, so this would be something else to add to my "homemade" stuff. |

Your incubator is the same thing except it makes 6-8 individual yogurts. Some prefer it that way to flavor separately Get the make and model off from the maker and get the instructions off from the web | |

| Thanks, I dug it out and googled for the directions. I found most of the directions are pretty much the same, so I'll go with that. |
