Thumbs up

Yes, I feel that Royal Canin is one of the best. However I've recently switched to Natural Balance(Duck and Potato small bites). Jada has been on Royal Canin since she was 3months, but for some reason now she would not eat it. Believe me if she would eat it she would still be on it. It made potty traning so much easier as she had to poop shortly after eating and it hardley had any smell which is a good thing if your pup is being potty trained indoors. RC is a little expensive but its worth every penny.Sometimes we have to go through 3-4 brands before we find something they like. I sent Natural Balance a request for free samples and they sent me some. Maybe RC could do the same.

I don't think so, too be honest. Buddy was on it when he was a puppy
and I found the ingrediants not up to par as some other's.
I have also read on YT some Yorkies scratch from using it. I think it
has corn in it which can cause allergies in some dogs.
Natural Balance is a much better quality of food, IMO.

I have heard it is really good. I have my baby on Taste of the Wild because he is very picky and I was having trouble with him eating. Well he LOVES this and so far has done really well on it.

I think it is rated 2 *s out of 5. Thor seemed to like it, but he's been itching like crazy recently - I thought he had fleas. I think now it's because I just switched him over to 100% RC.

I tried Spot's Stew, Salmon flavor last night, and he inhaled it. Of course, he's always super-excited about a new dog food flavor for a few days.

I have been feeding rc to my Trixie because she has been diagnosed with pancreatitis. She is doing great on it so far. I was just wondering if it is ok to give it to forever or do I need to supliment. Coco and Pebbles eat health extension holistic little bits. I free feed and just leave both bowls out and coco and peb eat theirs and trixie eats hers it's weird.

I would consider Royal Canin a low end/middle-of-the-road kibble. There is a very low amount of meat content, some fillers and low quality ingredients, and contains corn in the form of gluten meal which is a not only a high allergen product, it's a by-product. It's not the worst food out there, but there is better.

I'd recommend Orijen, Natures Variety Instinct, or Innova EVO.

Default Thumbs down for Royal Canin

Hi, Royal Canin uses byproducts. This means that they throw in hooves, bloody feathers, and other garbage left over my their mother company, Mars. They also use "chicken meal" which means that it is not whole human grade chicken.

Try something else -- I started with Wellness superfive mix (chicken) and it is a high quality food sold now at PETCO. I currently use Merrick, which is excellent, but truth be told, it is expensive.

Good Luck!

Chicken meal is the same product as chicken, but without the water content. Therefore Chicken Meal is actually a better ingredient since they cannot count the water as part of the weight.

Where did you get the idea that RC uses byproducts? Joey has been using Royal Canin for a couple of years, and although we've tried other products this is one of the few that he'll eat, and he doesn't experience any allergies form it. He's doing well, no itching, vomiting, diarrhea, or gas. His teeth and hair are in great shape. Here's a good site that debunks some of the myths associated with dogs foods, and you might learn to grade a dog food on your own. The Dog Food Project - Common Fallacies of Dog Food Reviews

Hi Nancy: A friend of mine told me that RC uses byproducts. I just took her word for it but now I see that they don't on their website. I would not choose this food for other reasons myself but if you and Joey are satisfied with it, then it seems you have picked the right food for your family.

Thanks for the link to the website. I mostly cook for my dogs and have since they were puppies but I do use dog food in their diets sometimes as well.

It isn't the best and it isn't the worst.
So many Yorkies get the itchies from it that I hesitate to even recommend their RX foods but I don't think all formulations cause the problem. I personally don't have a problem with corn as long as the dog doesn't have a sensitivity to it. It really depends on the dog. I do think that some of their foods are quite expensive for what you get though.
