| Inside dog in heat??? Okay Willow is my first inside dog and she is now 6 months so I know she will be coming into heat one of these days and not really sure how yall handle that when they are inside full time. Do you put diapers on them? How do they handle that do they tear them off? Any suggestions would be great! |

| In answer to your question, I've had female dogs that were never spayed, or bred, for that matter, and it is a bit of a mess, and you'll just have to keep them on a washable surface for about 3 weeks...I've never tried the diaper thing, and I've found myself mopping the tile floor, daily, 'till it's all over...If you do have them on carpet, and you can catch the red spots pretty soon after they happen, you can take a cold water cloth and scrub each spot, as it happens, but you'll have to be vigilent in watching for the spots...They probably have cleaners now that I'm not aware of...I know I always had my carpets shampood, after a heat, and never had any problems...Hope this gives you somewhat of an answer to your question.... |

| You can use diapers but it isn't too messy with Yorkies. They keep themselves clean. Have you researched the health benefits of spaying? It really is in the best interest of most females to go ahead with it.

| I'm not sure yet weather I want to breed her or not...I have bred dachshunds for years so thinking I will let her have atleast one litter. Also it is better for them to go threw one heat prior to getting spayed it helps there whole body mature better. |

| I havent had that problem yet with Zsa Zsa but Pixie I just put a diaper on her if we are on the carpet or bed.. but if she is outside or on the tile I don't worry about it.. she cleans herself pretty good and it is easy to clean the tiles.

| If you mean thie bone plates, etc., then it is possible but going through even one heat raises the risk of mammary cancer to 8% (from less than 1%). I'd take the structural issue over cancer but if you are going to breed, that's a whole different story.

| I also have a female that I intend to breed - she is almost 5 months old now - and I will be facing this issue soon. I got a great nappy pattern from another member and I have made her a few nappies - they match her clothes, so it just looks like she is wearing pants. I plan on keeping her in diapers when she is inside during the heat. We have a cream couch, so we will have to be careful. She is already used to the nappy because I used it for potty training. It is a fabric nappy, so you just pop a sanitary pad in there and voila - doggie nappy. Good luck

| Maddie has had two heats and I am planning to have her spayed this month. However, I used extra small little girl panties, cut a little hole for her tail, and tada! That worked while she ran around the house. My neice also had a pack of panties for her build-a-bear and she gave me a few pair. Worked like a charm. They already have the holes for the bear's tails |
