| Fleas!!! I left Baxter for the weekend with my sister. He didn't have fleas when he got there and now he does. She found them Sunday morning. Must have gotten them from the neighborhood cats that walk through the yard. HE had the Frontline on but it was near the end. Anyway - I think he must have a flea allergy. He has wheps on him! My pom would have fleas and never looked like this. Have gotten Capstar from the vet to give him tonight. Already giving him Benadryl and putting Benadryl liquid on the wheps. He is so pitiful. Any other suggestions on what to do? |

| yes, give him a bath in dawn dish soap. Make sure to wet and lather his neck first to get a barrier so the fleas don't run to his face. I just found fleas on Coco yesterday and, like yours it is the end of the frontline dose. I then proceeded to give each of my pets a bath in the dish soap because I figure if one has them, they all do. I'm also going to sprinkle boax on my carpets and let it sit for a while and vacuum.. repeat I also put a dish of water w/soap in it underneath nightlights to catch any fleas that might be wandering the carpets... got three of them in the one I had put in my kids rooms I'm probably being a bit neurotic but i'm getting new carpeting in the bedrooms next week and I want to rid the house of any fleas ahead of time. They are a nightmare

YT 3000 Club Member | chester has the same reaction to fleas, I have used merry hempsters organic dog salve, it looks likea big chap stick and just rub it on, it does help some. I will sometimes just rinse him off in luke warm water and that helps too a little |

Thor's Human Donating Member | I THINK I saw a flea... Thor has been scratching himself a lot over the past few days. He actually rubbed himself raw in one spot. I was rubbing his belly and I am like 95% sure I saw a little black bug crawling in his fur. I tried to catch it, but it was gone. I went over the rest of him and I did find little black dots in his fur. This is flea poop, right? I just gave him a bath in Dawn soap, but I don't think I saw any fleas in the bath water... I assume he'll still be itching for a few days from the bites. When should I expect to see him stop scratching? Also, I put his bedding in a spare closet for the moment. Does anyone know how long fleas can live off the body? Is it strange I couldn't find any fleas on him when I went looking? I thought I read somewhere that they like to hang out near the butt.

| I'm glad Baxter is doing better. Some dogs have horrible allergies to flea bites. I know I've been bitten by fleas before and they itch for a week. |
