| eye tearing suggestions Madison's eyes seem to be tearing more then ever. she ends up with this streak from the inside corner of her eyes down her "beard" so it looks like a dark crusty line in her fur. I hope I'm explaining it well. I was her face daily sometimes twice a day just cause I feel so bad for her. Any suggestions? someone told me to give her a tums once a day, she ate them for 2 days and I did think I saw an improvement but I cant get her to eat them now. We use natural instincts dog food. I have angel eyes, I haven't used it in a while. She ends up not eating her food with the angel eyes on it. Looking forward to reading your advice. |

| How old is your baby? Tear staining is often linked to teething, and I know that Ella's got much better when she was passed that phase. We also have a Maltese puppy, so I've been exploring different remedies, too. I didn't want to use Angel Eyes (at least, not yet) because it is an antibiotic, and I just don't know how I feel about giving that to my dog for what is basically an appearance issue. On a Maltese forum I'm on, lots of people recommended feeding a small amount of plain yogurt to the dogs daily--the staining is caused by bacteria, and the yogurt helps naturally balance out the bacteria in the dogs. I also picked up a natural tear stain remover from a pet boutique. He still has stains, but not as bad, and they clean off much easier.

| Check with your vet. She could have blocked tear ducts. |

| Uni only lasts a day or so after her bath till she gets "crustables". Some yorkies are just prone to it, they have tear ducts that are not fully opened, and plus some yorkie owners cut the hair around the eyes short which actually ends up wicking the tears out of the eye and onto the fur. Uni's hair around her eyes are long, but she still gets the "crusties".

Senior Yorkie Talker | My Biewer had this problem. Was much worse when he was eating California Natural. (I think it is allergies.) I changed his food and it improved but not totally. I tried Angel Eyes - it did nothing and he wouldn't eat his food when it was on it. Didn't know it was an antibiotic. The ingredients say it is dried liver. I ordered Calm Eyes which I read about on YT and got it three days ago. It works really well. He has some tearing but no goop or crustiness. |

| My vet put Lola on a small dose of Claritan this week. Turns out she has allergies to pollen. Very little tearing since. You might want to check with your vet. |

| I have read also that their food is linked to the tearing. When I changed Daisy Mae's food about a month ago her tearing is not as bad if any at all. It was pretty bad since she was 4 mos. old. I changed her food and it seemed to do the trick. Good luck! ~Kathy

| thanks to everyone that has given me their advice. I'd like to try the calm eyes. I do have eye envy to wash with and it does help. I think its either food allergies or airborne allergens. I will have to see what the vet says. Sometimes with things like this I think experiences yorkie mama's have better insight then the vet. Thanks again .... |

| It could be the airborn allergies...I have tried so many things with Snickers including: -full raw diet -stainless steel bowl with a drop or 2 of AC vinegar -calm eyes eye wash Nothing works...his eye boogers are BAD. This is the only problem I have not been able to solve. Our vet says that yorkies and maltese just have this problem...I don't like that conclusion...

| well we bought new food over the weekend. we've been feeding nature's variety. As thats what the breeder suggested and used. We are trying T.O.W. and merrick canned food. They gobbled up the food. so we will see if this makes any difference with madison's tearing. |

| eye update well it's day 3 on taste of the wild dry and merrick wet and I have to say it 'seems' that Madisons eyes aren't as goopey. I'll need a few more days for the verdict to be in. Both my dogs are gobbling up their food. Which when you have picky eaters is a VERY good thing! |

How big is Lola and how much Claitain did they say to give her a day? My Bichon has seasonal allergies and I'm looking for something for her. Our next route is monthly shots and I don't want to do that if I can help it. Thanks.... | |
