| Does Nuetering change growth? I have been reading some information on the web which suggests that early nuetering actually causes male dogs to grow taller. I am having Patrick nuetered this Friday, at 19 weeks. He is already 4 lbs. Does anyone have any experience with their male yorkies becoming execeptionally tall or large after early nuetering?

| I have read that also. It has something to do with the growth plates, etc. I think it may be true but most people don't seem to care because it doesn't really seem to matter since if the dog is neutered, it can't be shown anyway.

| I am not sure but do believe it might be true as I know that cats that are nuetered do grow larger...although I am not sure if it is just wider!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | There may be some validity to the studies, but I think the overall amount of growth is negligible. I've have also heard from a vet that no longer does early neuter because of indications of it causing some sort of digestive trouble. If I had the choice I would probably wait until a male is a little older to have him altered, just because of the unknowns regarding the long term health implications. I think differently though regarding spaying a female and think it's best either before their first heat or shortly thereafter. With Reno, his breeder spays/neuters all pet placements before they leave, so I didn't have a choice. Although, I don't believe it made him grow any taller, he has fairly short legs as it is.

| Hmmm, never heard of that, very interesting. Momo was neutered after he turned one. He's gained weight for sure...but he's got these really short little legs that doesn't take him as fast as he wants to go. lol I don't think neutering has made him any taller...his legs are still very short!
