Feeding during teething phase!! Diva is shedding baby teeth. I have noticed blood on her toys and have found 2 teeth. She usually eats dry dog food. Should I switch to canned food or soften the dry food for her? How long should I do this? Thanks for all of your help. I think that this forum is fantastic!!

| While Ranger has been teething we haven't switched his food. I think he likes the crunch of the dry food as he also likes to knaw on his toys to get the teeth to break through the gums. I would say that if you notice your baby is having problems eating then I would mix in a little dry food with some wet (I wouldn't just change it from dry to wet, as it may upset her stomach). Good Luck through the teething stage!!

while gracie was teething she prefered to "crunch" on her food and we provided her with a variety of chew toys to satisfy her need to chew.

I didnt change my babies food whilst teething either,I think that the crunching releives their gums and helps loosen other teeth Also, when my oldest yorkie was spayed, she had 8 baby teeth pulled and STILL ate dry kibble afterwards.I left a bowl of moist kibble out for her,and even a little canned food, but she didnt want that..she went straight to her usual bowl and crunched away lol.

When Tinker started teething she wouldn't eat. I found blood on her toys too. I would switch to soft foof or just put a little water on the hard food. The water makes the dry food soft and easy for them to eat. Don't get freightened if you notice that her teeth are not falling out and the new ones come in behind the baby teeth. That happened to Tinker, and the vet just pulled them when she was getting spayed. That happens to most yorkies. Also, I would try and play with her using her soft toys. That helped Tinker release some of the pressure and helped her lose some teeth that were being stubborn. When yorkies lose their teeth it is just like when babies those their teeth. They may get a little diahrrea and their normal behavior will be a little altered. Everything will be just fine. Good luck and get some rest because this is a time when they slow down a little, and before you know it they are running around like they are on a sugar high =).
