| Demodex Mites....please help! I hope someone can help me. My little guy has been scratching at his mouth/nose area for several months. At first the vet thought it might be his food and switched him to another. His itching got worse, and his skin looked red and swollen and his hair was getting thin in that area. So I took him back to the vet, and he did a skin scrape. He said he had demodex, and gave me a mitaban dip to give him at home. I gave him one dip, and he is still scratching like crazy. I went back in today to see if there was something I could put on the area to relieve his itching, and they gave me some prednisone to give him for the next two weeks, said that would help. When I came home I looked it up, and I keep seeing that prednisone should not be given to dogs with mites. Has anyone gone through this? What would you suggest? I only have one vet where I live, and I don't feel very confident with him, so I would appreciate any help you can offer.

| My Chachi had it before and had to have 5 dips every 10 days having one every ten days and it got rid of them. The prednisone isnt going to get rid of the mites. Our vet thought Chachi had an allergy before he did a skin scrape and he put him on prednisone and he just got worse. I would ask for more dips

| Thank you Chachi for your response. I should have said, I did one dip, and was told to do another in two weeks. After that I am supposed to bring him in to do another scrape test and see how he is. I just thought I would get something in the meantime to help with the itching. I'm just not sure if I should give him the prednisone, I've read that it can make the mites worse.
