| Vet to scrape bump; bald spot worries My Maximo has a small bump on the top of his head that could be a bug bite, or it could be a cyst. The vet suggested scraping it during surgery tomorrow -- Maximo is going to be neutered. The scraping will leave a small bald spot. Will this be permanent, or will the hair grow back? (I forgot to ask the vet, and I am probably fixating on this vanity issue to distract myself from worrying about his surgery) |

YT 500 Club Member | Meg has a little bump on her head, too. It's more of a scab though. I would think that the hair will grow back even when he does a scraping. Meg's vet scraped her to make sure bump wasn't fungal and we haven't had any hair issues so far.

| I guess today is the day your little one gets neutered. Pray that all goes well. If you work outside the home were you able to take the day off? When will you hear the results of the skin scrape?

| Thank you 4doggiemama for your well wishes -- I was a complete wreck yesterday, but my Maximo sailed through surgery (including having 5 baby teeth removed!). Our wonderful vet, under great pressure, allowed me to bring Max home before dinner. Thankfully I work from home so I was able to keep an eye on him all day (rather, he spent the entire day reassuring me that he is fine). Regarding the skin scrape, I decided not to have it done. I dabbed a little olive oil -- extra virgin, cold pressed -- on it and the little bump is already going down. My guess is that the bump is essentially a pimple -- which the vet said it could be. I'll monitor it closely and thanks to the helpful responses in this thread, I won't sweat Max having a little skin scrape if necessary. Thanks again for your kind thoughts. |
