| Can someone help me? I'm new to this so bare with me. I have a female yorkie, Gidget, that is 6 years old. Here is my problem... I have fed her everyday at the same time, the same food for the past 6 years and have never had a problem until about a month ago. She always ate around 8am while I would get ready for work. She started waking up and jumping off the bed every morning at about 5:30am and I wasn't sure why. I would try to put her back in the bed to go back to sleep, but she would continue to jump down and bark and growl at me to get up. I tried taking her outside, but that wasn't it either. So I fed her and of course she ate and came back to bed and slept no problem. Well as the weeks go on, she is waking up at 1:30am, 2:30am, 4:30am, etc. and wants to eat! Is she tricking me or taking advantage of me now that I have fed her other times that early or is something wrong? Do you think she has tapeworm? Has anyone ever experienced this behavior before? Desperately need some answers so I can get a full nights sleep!! |

| Welcome! Yep, sounds like the little stinker is training you pretty well! You do feed her more than the one time a day, right? If not, maybe she really is hungry. If you're worried about worms, maybe a trip to the vet for peace of mind is in order. Good luck!

| Hi If it's not worm-related, have you considered free-feeding her? They like to nibble and their tummies are small. Maybe since she's getting a little older, she can't eat enough at one sitting to keep her full until the next feeding.

| My Rita is six years also, but I got her (rehomed) only 1 month ago. She did this to me when I first got her. She was used to eating once a day. I took her normal amount of what she would have in the morning and divided it in 1/2. She gets half in the morning at 8 am and the other half @ 6pm. It seems to work well, she doesn't wake me up anymore! Good luck!

| I think if it was tapeworm you would see the little rice looking segiments on her bottom and in her poop. I would do and thats what we do is free feed. They have a meal of wet food at night but kibble is left out for breakfast and during the day if they need something. They are small and I just feel better knowing if they need something to eat its there. I also give ours a little snack in the afternoon and right before bed. |

| I feed twice a day, too. Thought I read somewhere that is what you need to do when dogs are as small as our Yorkies are.

| How about giving her a snack before bedtime or a small meal? Do tapeworms make dogs do that? Make us wake up in the middle of the night to feed them? Here's my questions again...whenever I do that, my bf goes 'Do I look like a vet?' or something like that. lol

| Yorkies really should be fed at least 2x daily. It may be that she is training you but thre is really no way to tell without a vet visit. When was her last blood panel, thyroid check and fecal?
