| Chewing at paws/nails So here lately honey has been knawing at her paws and nails. at first we thought it was b/c her nails were too long but now DH thinks there might be something wrong w/ her paws. Its not just one foot, its all of them. But they look normal to us... Anyone have any suggestion? I am going to get her nails cut on tuesday just in case that's it...

| It could be a food allergy. What is your pup eating for food? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | That's usually a sign of allergy - it could be seasonal, environmental, or food. Allergies are tough, but you'd really want to find out what it is, or a lot things can start to happen if left unchecked (ear infections, eye inf., other allergies). It could also be mites, but you'd have to have a vet check for that. Is she itching also? If so, where? And what are you feeding?

| Well i dont think its her food b/c she's been eating the same brand of food for over 3 months now... shes not itching too much. the usually scratch here and there, nothing too serious that i think. but i will check w/ the vet and see about mites. I have no clue about mites. What are they? What do they do? argh, i hope its not allergies

| I adopted a maltese rescue once that did this incessently! It drove us batty! No scratching, just gnawing at the paws and a "B.O" that would not go away despite all shampoos. I didn't find much on the topic, except allergies- most likely grains. That's what got me into researching grain free and raw diets. Even benadryl and mits for his paws. Unfortunately none of that helped him. The vet could also find nothing wrong. IT was terribly frustrating. We finally gathered it must have been an anxiety issue, perhaps from his earlier years. It wouldn't hurt to try grain free and then raw. It won't hurt him. If that doesn't work maybe have him tested for intestinal yeast overgrowth. |
