| Tootsie Roll I just found one of those miniature tootsie roll pops beneath my bed eaten. My one-year-old Addie is the only one who could have been responsible. It seems like it was fairly recently (the stick was just a little wet). Should I be freaking out? I kind of am. I've heard chocolate is super super bad for dogs, but tootsie rolls aren't the same, are they? Should I call a vet or am I just overly freaking out? | Okay, so I just talked to an emergency vet over the phone. I gave all the information they needed, and I was told that since it was a tiny amount of chocolate, the best thing for me to do is to just watch for shaking, vomiting or anything else unusual like that over the next few hours. If that occurs, then I have to rush her to the vet. So I'm going to get off the internet now, go to the bedroom with my pup and keep a very VERY close eye on her. I'm just so incredibly mad at myself for completely missing her taking that mini tootsie pop. GRRR |

| Thanks for the reassuring words! Well it looks like she's doing just fine now! I had her lie down next to me all night, and I'd jump awake at the slightest movement she made. I even randomly woke up throughout the night and put my hand on her to make sure she was breathing okay. Thank goodness she's doing fine. She causes me more stress than anything else, but I suppose she's worth it. I've had the little rascal grab pens and run away to chew on them before and other little things I've caught her with but never chocolate! She actually jumped up on the dining room table, snuck the mini tootsie pop and then must have ran full force under the bed to eat it. I'm just glad there was nothing else (like chocolate bars) for her to eat. Whew! |
