YorkieTalk Newbie! | newbie-pregnant yorkie food Hello everyone, I have a 1 1/2 year old Yorkie who we think is pregnant and I am not sure what the best food to be feeding her. She is just starting to show, so we are not sure how far along she is. I am new here and would appreciate any help. Thanks |

| Welcome to yorkies talk. When did your female get bred and was she bred by another yorkie? What are your feeding her now? I recommend a good quality dog food or puppy food. I feed mine Chicken Soup dry food and Canidae. Blue Buffalo and Solid Gold are also good choices. Really all your female needs right now is just quality dog food. You do not want to start over feeding or supplementing her. Once the puppies are born she will need lots of quality food. If you need more help with your upcoming litter then you can post any questions you might have in the 'Breeders Section' and there will be plenty of people to help you. Best of luck. |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | This was not a planned pregnancy and the dad we thing is a mix jack russell terrier. He is a small dog just a little bigger than Lucy. She did manage to run away a couple time but we found her within about 30 minutes time. |

| Do you remember when she started her heat cycle? What signs of pregnancy is she showing? Usually the belly will start getting big around 5 weeks after being bred, some might show a little sooner and some will show a little later; it all depends on the size of the mom and how many pups she is carrying. Sometimes with a false pregnancy the belly can get a little pudgy looking and the nipples will swell. If it has been more than 4 weeks since she 'escaped' then a vet should be able to verify if she is pregnant or not. |

If you don't want to go that route I would recomend a premium puppy food. Do not give her extra calcium as that is not needed until AFTER she has the pups. If youbhave any other questions please don't hesitate to ask! Good luck to you and the mom to be! | |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Thanks Thanks everyone. I have an appt Saturday at the vet to have Lucy checked to make sure she if pregnant and then I will go from there. I have decided though to have her fixed either now if she is not pregnant or after the puppies are born. Does anyone know how many puppies yorkies have? She only weighs about 4 pounds so she is a small one. Thanks Everyone for the help and the advice. I will let you know what I find out after the check up on Saturday. |

| Yorkies can have anywhere from 1 to 7 or more puppies. It is usually the larger bitches that have the bigger litters but I have heard of 4 lb females having large litters. You female is awful tiny to be having puppies so I hope for her sake that she is not pregnant. Please keep us posted on what the vet says. We will be here to support you through this difficult time. |
