| 1 and a 1/2 pound 10 month old in heat This is my first yorkie and I'm new to this forum. She is the only baby I'm ever gonna have. She is my child. My baby is in her first heat. She is a pound and a half...Maybe closer to two pounds by now but she is tiny. She is about 10 months now. I believe she is in her 2nd week of heat. She is bleeding a tiny bit. I can tell from the diaper she wears and hates. My question is......Since she is so tiny, will this last much longer? I will not breed her cuz I'm terrified she won't or her babies won't make it cuz she is so small but I'm scared to have her spayed for the same reason. I want to so badly but I'm too scared at this point. I read about baby bella not making it and now I'm bout to say no but Want to know if anyone has a tiny baby like me who knows more about this. Please help.....How likely is it she will or won't make it? How long will her heat last since she is extra small??? Can anyone help? |

| Her heat should last the same amount of time as any other dog....about 21 days on average. A two pound dog can safely be spayed but there may be some increased risk below that weight. I'd talk to a vet who specializes in small breeds to see what they think.

BANNED! | She is WAY to tiny to have babies safely. Keep her away from all males for 21 days approx. Her size doesn't mean her heat will be shorter. I have a friend who has a female who is 1 lb 4 ounces and didn't spay her due to her size, her vet won't spay her saying its too risky. There is a morning after shot for emergencies if you ever suspect an unwanted pregnancy. The shot it self has risks so only use it when you have too. Good Luck with your tiny baby. |

| Thank you Bonny and everyone. I am new to this forum thing but so glad I found it cuz you guys have already responded. I'm still a littel confused at the posting and replying. Do I need to reply to every individual message or when I post something does it have to be in a specific catagory or forum. Just confused on how all this works. |

| Yeah I checked with one on Base here and they said no. They wouldn't do it but another one I;ve always taken my animals to say can do some test before hand to check her kidneys and all that stuff to make sure she can handle being out. Ever heard of anything like that before. should I wait a little longer? I'm jsut so scared of losing her to something like this |

| My little one is going to be 1 on June 8th and she hasn't even gone in to heat yet. Wow, just be very careful with her, you sure don't want her getting pregnant. |

| Wow! Maybe she won't lol. She will but maybe it won't be bad. I don't think I am gonna get Mylie spayed. Can't risk losing her. Oh, she is around other dogs and stays in the house so I'm not worried about her getting prego. I just can barely deal with this bleeding. It bothers me so and twice a year! Wow! She hates these diapers and they come off too easily......Oh well I guess |

A bile acids test and urinalysis is also a good idea. Since you don't have a current weight on her, it is harder to say what to do. Only a very specialized vet would know what is best.

| As long as you find a vet that deals with toy breeds she do ok. I had 2lb poodle stud and was scared to death to have his teeth cleaned, but they got so bad I had to have them done poor thing got so he had hard time eating. My vet is also a friend and so good with the littles. I told him don,t you let anything happen to my boy. As soon as he come to he called me and said you baby is doing great and to come pick him up. So check around maybe you can find a good vet. |

I just bought a scale on ebay(free shipping) and it weighs up to 35 lbs. It was very reasonable and I love it. I thought mine was only 2 lbs. but, she's up to 2 3/4 pounds. The vets office has scales too, but, for the little dogs, they're not very reliable | |
