| What is safe to give a puppy who loves to chew Does anyone have any suggestions on what to give a puppy to chew on. I've heard so many bad stories about, rawhide, pig ears, greenies, etc.... that I just don't know what is safe to give him. Right now I give him rawhide that I hold while he chews on it. But I guess he could still work off a little choke size piece before I could stop him. What about raw veggies? I know they are good for them, but couldn't they choke on them also? Also, even though I try to never let him out of my sight, or put him in a controlled caged area, he eats everything he finds on the floor & in the grass. Yesterday, he threw up 5 times ( liquid) then had a bowel movement that kinda got stuck ....it ended up being a piece of unknown fabric...I suspect one of my kids socks. What a scare!!! He seems fine now. I feel like I have a 2 year old child who just can't keep things out of their mouth!!! I hope this stage passes soon. |

| A kong would be a safe thing to give him. You can fill it up with peanut butter. Or yoqurt and then freeze it. When they are little puppies they want to put things in their mouth. Both of mine did it when they were younger but kinda outgrew it so theres hope for you.

| I think that possibly anything being a chew toy or food treat a Yorkie eats can be a danger due to choking/lodging, so supervision with any item is reccomended. There are many great chew items available for our fur babies. Nylabones, Kongs filled with yummy treats, soft rubber toys, etc. Mainly watching for chew items that get small from use and removing them to prevent choking/lodging is helpful and safer. I try to "child proof" our home and watch outside as best as we can, however I still find Schatzie picking up small morsels of yucky stuff now and then.

| All of my little ones LOVE to chew and I have always given them nylabones. They got the gumabone (rubber) ones as puppies, but as they got older they get the durables (plastic) ones. They like them so much and they are the perfect size for them to hold themselves.

| Gidget loves to chew and I saw little peices of blue all over and I finaly found where it was comming from....she had a knoby bone that i thought would feel goood on her gums however it falls right apart then she has a nylon bone and that seems to keep her happy and hasnt had any brakeage....also we got her this great little bone the other day (cant remeber the name of it but it was at one of those boutique places....but it is kinda soft (gummy) and smells ike pepermint...she just loves it and still no breakage....I have a 3 year old and we keep toys up and in his room but every now and then we find special surprizes in her poo I know Gidget likes to have peas and carrots (the canned kind that are diced) I know when my son was teething the dr told us he could have frozen ones so I figure that they would be good for Gidge.......she is over 6lbs though so I guess if you had a tiny pup they could choke still.....Guess it is like kids...they need to be watched all the time :P I have stayed away from the pigs ears and rawhide though...they always scare me.... |

| Kacee loves raw baby carrots. She gets at least one, sometimes two, a day. I don't know why this came to mind, but I just remembered when I was a little girl that we had a little chihuahua and us kids decided to give her a whole apple one day. Of course, she loved it even though she couldn't eat much of it. It did satisfy her chewing, though! We've still got a picture of her with it. Kids!

| Wow, you're really lucky if he passed a big piece of fabric! Harley's a compulsive eater too and my vet said that usually the foreign objects that get caught are fabrics. Thank goodness he passed it alright! I know how hard it is to "puppy proof" your home (nearly impossible) but just do your best and if you can't keep your eye on him seclude him in play pen so he's safe! |

| confinding him will cut down on the exploring . but puppy proofing is difficult. i have 20/15 vision (very good) but lucky always finds the tiniest little micro piece of something thats deep deep in the carpet. also if i catch him with something he shouldn't have and i start to walk towards him to take it.......... he will gulp it down like water..hehe......... but a few weeks ago i was at a local pet store they showed me a little red rubber chewy thing(no that's not the name) very small has a picture of a yorkie on it. it has a hole in the bottom to put a treat in it. i put a wellness treat it there and he went nuts .... played with it for hours trying to get the treat out. he did get half out. and the rubber is strong cant be bitten into....and i believe that b/c my boy is teething right now and will chew any and everything..... try your local petstore. i dont care for petco and petsmarts everything is over priced and the food they sell isin't healthy anyway. people are just use to the name and petco does come to mind when you think of pets.... but most of the local pet supply places gives you more choices and better quality. just my opinion.
