| bumps? Fiona had a tick on her the other day, I knew it was newly attached, since it wasnt really embedded or blown up with blood, so i pulled it off, well there is a little bump there, which is probably from the head of the tick not coming completely out, but i just looked at her about 5 min ago, and she now has 4 little hard bumps on her chest area and one on her front leg...she let me mess with them, and they arent really seeming to cause her any harm, i just put some mal-otic lotion on her, which is for ear infections, but it can help with skin infections as well, so im not sure what this could be, or if i should call the vet? Since working as a vet tech, this all looks odd to me.....Any suggestions?

| I would say take her to the Vet, when it comes to the unknown. |

My furkids Donating Member | you should NEVER use your bare hands to remove a tick!! YOU can get sick from this. I have seen many suggestions on how to remove a tick. One of them is to put dish detergent onto a cotton ball...apply it to the tick this is SUPPOSED to suffocate it and it is supposed to back out......the tick is supposed to be on the cotton ball and FLUSH IT!! I don't know if this really works or not...They also sell a tick remover. It looks like a little half ball with a slit in it..I don't know how it works..never used it. I usually take a pair of tweezers, grab ahold of the tick really close to the skin, turn counter clockwise and pull...this will remove the entire tick. However....we were camping last year and Sadie got one...I HATE those things...anyway...I tried to remove it and Sadie pulled at the same time. The head DID NOT come out. I bought some draw salve and applied twice a day..it eventually came out...had I been home I would have brought her to the vet.... In answer to your question.....yes. there will be a bump there after removing the tick...I'm not sure about the other bumps..I would definitely contact your vet in the morning.

| well, i called the vet, they told me she might be broken out from the fertilizer that is on the grass, so they told me to just watch it, and we have an apt on wed, so hopefully she wiill be alright. I used a hemostat to get the tick off of her, that what i used when i was working at the animal hospitals. Thanks though!!!!!!!

| Piper always gets a bump where a tick has been removed. The ticks are never engorged but just has attached. The bump is usually as big as a pea and can stay around for weeks. The vet said it was an allergic reaction to the tick bite. My first yorkie, Chip, really had allergic reactions to tick bites which started when he was around 8 years old. He would get the bump where the tick was attached but then he would get these bumps on his body that turned to sores that would blister, looked almost like chicken pox. The vet said that Chip would get a bacterial infection from the tick bite. Chip would then have to be on antbiotics and predisone.
