| How much food and how often? My 5.5 month old Yorkie eats 1/4 cup of dry food 2x a day. She is about 5 lbs. She eats all of her food and is a good eater. However, she is still kind of skinny. She does have a super short haircut, which may account for her looking skinny. I've tried to give her more than a 1/4 cup of food at a time, but she won't eat more than that. Should I be concerned or not?

| I would take to your Vet. Tricksie is 8 lbs and gets 1/3 cup twice a day.

| Hi - What does a cup of complete food actually weigh? I know this is a really familiar measurement for you, but for us brits there is some confusion... I can't even visualize it! Thanks |

| What kind of food are you using? Does it not tell you on the package, how much for the weight?

| I am using Orijen Puppy, but I started with the 400g trial size...no info on there as to how much to feed, nor the website. I'm hoping the big bag on order will tell more! I have to mail order and will be waiting Last edited by Tinksmum; 05-11-2009 at 01:11 PM. Reason: Spelled things good and proper! |

| Molly is 2 years old and 6.5-7 lbs, and eats about 1/4-1/3 cup twice a day...plus snacks for good potties...ha! With a short hair cut or after a bath, she does look really skinny. But my vet said she is healthy. You should be able to feel rib bones, but not see them. Hope that helps! |

| We're suposed to be metric here in Canada, but most people over age 20 still talk in cups. 1 cup of food is the same as 250 ml (dry measure). So 1/4 cup is roughly 63 ml. The weight likely varies by the type of food. This is why its a good idea to look at the suggested serving size on the bag; although I do notice they suggest generous servings. A package of dog discuits I bought suggested 40 cookies a day for a big dog, 20 for a small!

| I found this info online. Sorry - the table wouldn't post properly and was a garbled mess. Google "orjen puppy how much to feed" and it's about the thrid or fourth website down that has the information. Michele :-) Last edited by rtsmichele; 05-12-2009 at 11:14 AM. |
