Donating YT 30K Club Member | When Roxie went through her first heat before I could spay her she was swollen for awhile and almost a year later they are still much bigger than my other 2's.

| When I talked with my vet about spaying one of my girls she said to wait a month or two after her heat so her hormones would have a chance to settle down again. You might want to check with your vet and see what they recommend. Has Bailee been around any males? Is that why you're concerned about the swelling? My girls swell a little when they come into heat so if Bailee hasn't been around a male I wouldn't worry. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | A heat cycle lasts for approximately 21 days or so, day one being the first sign of bleeding.. The vulva swells and the teats are also much more prominent. If she has just stopped bleeding a week ago, then she is likely still "in heat" and probably around her most fertile time to become pregnant. Hopefully you are watching carefully if there are any intact males around her. A female can be spayed while they are in heat, although the surgery may cost a little more because of it. Hopefully by the 26th, her heat cycle will be done with. Ask your vet about it to be certain.

| She is likely not even out of heat yet and I would wait at least 6-8 weeks after. I don't see any reason to rush into it when it is safer to wait. Maybe that's just me though.

| This is the time when she could get pregnant, so don't let her be around other intact males, unless you want puppies! |

| Rhianna had her first heat in February. Her teats had hard little lumps underneath them for approximately 2 weeks after her cycle.

| did you have her spayed? I was wondering if you had the surgery or decided to wait. Mine was in heat but her parts are not as swollen anymore. She has changed her personality, though. She used to play hard with a male (fixed) maltese she is friends with but not anymore. She is excited to see him and licks him for a minute but cowards down when he begins to play like he used to. After a short amount of time, she'll go "psycho" (term we lovingly call her when she goes after him to let him know he's gone too far). Before the heat cycle, she could play with him for hours and he would be the one that would get tired. I hope she will go back to her normal self. Thanks!! |
