| Constipation Issue Hi there. Cash is suffering from constipation at the moment. I feel like such a bad mom. He got into the trash today and ate some chicken bones. He is acting exactly the same as he did when he ate some nuts (R1000 vet bills and he just had a big poo and he was fine). That is why I feel like a bad mom, I should have prevented him from getting to the chicken bones. My question is: what can I do to help him get it out of his system? I don't have pumpkin (I heard that helps) and it is late at night here, so I can't really go anywhere. He is alert and not pale or anything, he just seems uncomfortable. Anything I can do to help?

| When Ziggy did this my vet recommended giving him vaseline on bread. It will stick to the bone fragments and make stuff slide through. Do you know how much he got? Is his belly hard? If the bone fragments are too big they may not leave his stomach and he'll have to vomit them out. How much does he weigh? Really watch him for runny diarhea as it may indicate a blockage.

| Cash is 10lbs, so he is big enough to handle almost anything (well, he thinks so). I don't eat bread, so there is no bread in the house, but maybe some oatmeal with vaseline? He hasn't vomited and no diarrhea, but I am watching him closely. He still eats treats, so no problem there.

| Ziggy is 15 pounds and couldn't pass the bit of bone that he swallowed. Did Cash chew it up or is he a gulper like Ziggy?

| I don't think he has a blockage since he had a poo this morning. I think he still feels a bit under the weather since he wants to sit with me the whole time (even now when I am sitting on a bar stool at the kitchen counter (very difficult to stay on the stool when he is on my lap)). I put him down on the couch in the sun and he seems comfortable. I am off to church at 09h30, so when I get back, I hope he will have had a big poo. I will buy some apple sauce on my way back - just in case. He did have his breakfast and ate it all (hehe, since I started home cooking, he cleans his bowl every time). He is just being a baby, but it's okay - I like to baby him (he doesn't always allow me since he is such a tough and independent boy). I hope he learned his lesson! I think he gets upset that June is in her expen when I leave since he gets into the trash regularly now and the last time he did that was when he was younger than a year old. Hehe, I have a trash can baby. Anyway, thanks for all the help and advice. I love YT!!

| I'm glad that he seems good today. These guys are sometimes worse than two-year olds for getting into stuff.

| He is better, but his stomach is still hard. Do you think I need to take him to the vet to check it out? He has pooped and is eating, though not as readily as before. He just took a few bites of his breakfast and he usually gobbles it up. Off to the vet with him?

| My vet told me to give Apple 1/2 tsp. of metamucil, on her food, when she ate an eyebrow pencil....It also helps w/consitpation....Apple is on Innova, and I have to give her 3 or 4 raw spinach leaves a day, or her stools get awfully hard....Also, I put 3 or 4 blueberries in her food, in the morning.... |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | There's this solution to when dogs ingest glass or in this case bones. If they did splinter and won't come out you can get a cup of half and half OR cream and dip 2 cotton balls into the liquid. Break up the cotton balls into small pieces so you dog can eat it, and what it does is surround the bones and make it easier to pass thru the system. There is also this product for constipation that you insert into his bottom: natural herbal treatment - tomer laboratories - natural quality herbal remedies

| Are his poops normal-same shape/amount as usual? Also, is he showing any signs of pain i.e arching his back, straining when pooping, not allowing you to touch his tummy or sides. Check him for a fever. If he has one, I would get him into the vet ASAP. Keep checking the poop to see if any bones have come through. Also watch for blood in the stool-black tarry, sticky stool is a sign of internal bleeding. After Ziggy had his bowel surgery, he pooped this stuff for 5 days before he had a formed poop. Its really hard to know what to do. You can try calling your vet. They may give you a list of what to watch for or tell you to bring him right in. Take care.

| I took him to the vet and the vet (a very nice guy) said he is going to be fine. He gave him a laxative, just in case. Cash was playing with June for a while (acting more like his normal self), but now he is uncomfortable again. I gave him pumpkin last night (I made a new batch of food and added a pack of pumpkin). He did poop out some of the bone, but I don't know if it is all of it. The vet said to bring him in after two days to check if everything was okay - free of charge. He hasn't had a poo after we got back from the vet at 15h00 and it is 20h00 now. Oh and the vet said to withhold food for 12 hours. So, we are giving his digestive system a rest. Hopefully, he will have a big poo soon and then it will all be over. Haha, on the funny side, while the vet was examining his tummy and palpitating it, Cash let one loose in the vet's face! The vet was very cool about it, but it stank to the high heavens.
