| VCA vets vs. AAHA vets...What's the difference? I'm bringing Riley home this Saturday and I need to make a vet appointment for him. There is a VCA animal hospital (they offer a free inital exam) and an AAHA veterinary hospital both within close proximity to me. Does anyone know what makes the two different? Or is one better than the other for any special reason? |

| I think VCA is a chain whereas AAHA certification just says the place meets certain standards. I wouldn't be convinced that one is better than the other but we happen to go more with the AAHA. That's not to say that everything these vets do is right though and some vets who say they are AAHA certified don't even follow the AAHA vaccine protocol.

| A vet nearby us is AAHA certified and there is no way you can buy any medicine without him seeing the dog and paying a $60 vet visit. Most vets I know will let you have common medicine for your dog if they know you and have seen you before. This is just a way for the AAHA vets to make some extra bucks and they are not very breeder friendly at all. |

| Hi, I do have a AAHA vet and find them very up to date with all thier equipment and extra classes for further education. One of the owner/vets is also a licensed acupuncturist <sp> I feel very confident in her knowlege of Yorkies she is my TN. vet. Their prices are not as expensive as my vet in Tampa, FL who is not AAHA. I suggest you look up the websites of both clinics and see which one is right for you. Or to learn more about AAHA just look it up so you can make an informed decision for what is right for YOU and your family. Good Luck.... Sharon..

| Why don't you make a visit to both and speak with some of the people there...... ask questions...... like what vaccine schedule they recommend and also what their normal agenda is for "Yorkie Health care". Remember....... THEY are doing you a service.... YOU pay them. So why not do a little "shopping" for a vet?

| The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), a non-profit veterinary medicine association, is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals throughout the U.S. and Canada. AAHA-accredited hospitals voluntarily choose to be evaluated on 900 standards in the following areas: quality of care, diagnostic & pharmacy, management, medical records, and facility. VCA Antech owns and operates veterinary hospitals and veterinary clinical laboratories around the country. There are many VCA hospitals that are AAHA accredited. A list of AAHA accredited practices can be found at www.healthypet.com. |
