| Need to vent to people that will understand! (Vet/vaccination issue.) *VENT* So, Wenny was due for her annual checkup and I spent a lot of time on here/researching vaccinations. I decided that she was not getting bordatella, as she is never boarded and we groom at home. I also decided against lyme and the obvious-lepto and corona. I get all of her shots done separately. Well, she had to get her rabies shot first because it was expired, so I wanted to wait a little longer between that and the distemper combo. I was told they could not take out the corona but they could take out the lepto. I struggled with that, but decided I would go ahead with it. Well, fast forward to today. I had changed my mind about the lyme because she's already going outside a lot more than she did last year and the ticks are pretty bad in my area. So, I call yesterday and get Stephanie on the phone, who was less than helpful and rude-but I made the appointment to get the lyme vaccine. I had been told before to do it in the afternoon so that it would be a vet tech and I would only have to pay for the vaccine. Well imagine my surprise today when the vet walks in. She said she had to check Wenny because it had been more than 10 days-fine. She gives Wenny the shot and tells me "if you change your mind about the lyme or the bordetella just give us a call." So, I asked what she had just given Wenny. She said the distemper combo. My immediate reaction was WAS THE LEPTO TAKEN OUT?! It was, but I had called for the lyme vaccine. She said they put me down for the distemper. I said I called for the lyme and was going to do the distemper the next week. She repeated that they put me down for the distemper. Great-thanks Stephanie. I'm really mad and now I feel like I should have checked what she was giving her, but I've never had that kind of a problem. I also feel like she should have confirmed with me before giving it. I learned my lesson and will be researching to find a new vet. *Vent over.* Thank you to anyone who actually read all of that! Ashley

| LOL I did read all of that and agree with how you feel. The only good thing is now you don't have to get the DHPP next week and she did remember to take the Lepto out. I hope she get's no reaction from the shot. Next week all that's left is the lymes. Good luck with that too. |

| Vets and vaccines can be a constant fight. By the way, they weren't exactly honest with you. They most certainly can give DHPP without C. They would have had to order it and evidently they didn't feel like it.

I agree! You don't have to take C and L out of the vaccine, you can order the vaccine without it. Here you go: Fort Dodge Animal Health - Duramune Max 5 #337-210 I would be furious!

| Ellie's distemper titer came back low a couple years ago and instead of using the DHPP, the vet got on the phone "gasp" and got the single distemper in. Some of these vet stories amaze me and not in a good way.

You can order single dose vaccines from Revival with just distemper, just parvo, etc. for dogs who are sensitive to vaccines and bring them to your vet to administer.

| Thanks for your replies ARCHIE, Ellie May, and Ladymom. I knew people on YT would understand my frustration. Quote:
It's like I'm trying to do my best/what's best for her and it's so aggravating. You have to advocate for everything (dog issues and human issues) it seems! Ashley

| I totally understand your frustration! I've had a few moments with vets myself.

| OMG! I need to start researching vaccinations now, Fancy is due in Oct so I have a some time to figure out what she really needs and what she can do without. I was lucky she was fully vaccintated when I got her at 17 weeks old. I would be giving Stephanie a piece of my mind before I left that day... Don't feel bad for not asking the vet before they gave them. I thought it would be the same when you take your child to the dr to get the immunizations. You know, THEY tell what they are giving today and you sign a paper before they give the shot(s).
