| Too many issues! I have one male Yorkie (Miles) almost 3 years and one female Yorkie (Bella) who just turned one. We had purchased Bella originally to a companion to Miles and ultimately to breed in her second heat. She is about 2lbs. smaller than Miles full grown, so as a safety precaution we thought we would mate her in a her second heat with a smaller stud. Her first heat just passed and we had both of our dogs separated the whole time except for once instance they got out for about 10 minutes and were unattended. I checked them both and I couldn't tell that they had actually done anything, but now I'm starting to think different. Bella has been out of heat for about a month and all of a sudden her nipples got bigger, she feels heavier and isn't quite as energetic as she used to be. This worries me a lot, because I'm concerned for the safety of my Bella first and foremost and I know this can be a serious health issue for her if she is pregnant because of her age and size as compared to my male. I plan on taking her to the vet to find out for sure, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts, experiences or ideas about my situation.....I'm feeling like a totally worried mom right now. Please don't slam me, I totally understand how serious this situation is and would do anything to turn back the hands of time but the truth is I can't. I have to deal with this the best way possible for my Bell, so any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks! |

| I don't intend to slam you . If your little one is pregnant , you will have to take extra precautions by having her exam by your vet . Later , you must be prepared if she have to have a C-section . I mean stay in contact with your vet . Last edited by Diego; 09-12-2005 at 11:47 AM. |

How much does she weigh? The first thing I would do is take her to the vet, exactly like you said you were planning on doing and have them to check her to see if they actually feel any babies and they can I would say 99% tell you how many. Explain your concerns to the vet and see what they have to say. They will probably want you to then come in for xrays to see exactly how many if indeed she is pregnant. They may also suggest a c-section if they feel it is necessary. Don't beat yourself up to bad over it. If she is the only thing that you can do right now is to take every precaution to keep her safe.

| I have heard to many times that people intentionally let the female get pregnant on purpose and most of the time they end up fine. I'm glad to hear you tried to prevent it though. I think I would be more concerned with size. How big is she, 2 lbs is a lot? Good luck and please keep us posted....

| I hope everything turns out okay...but if she is not pregnant and I read correctly...she is 2 lbs???..she should not be having any litters because she is wayyyyy to small from what I have heard from some breeders. I hope everything works out and it is just a false pregnancy..get to the vet asap...and keep us posted

I read that she is 2lbs smaller than the male. Still that is pretty small.

| Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement and advice. Let me just clear up Bell's size, I think I made that confusing...she's actually 6.4lbs and my Miles is just over 8lbs. I know that if she is pregnant that she will most definitely need a C-Section and the thing that scares me the most is that Bell came from a litter of 5 and so did Miles - yikes! I'm not sure if that will dictate how many puppies she will have, I sure hope not. My one huge concern is having Bella have a C-Section, I don't like the idea of having to put her under because my boss' Yorkie went under to have her teeth cleaned and they gave her too much anesthesia and she never came to. I will do whatever it is I have to do to make sure my Bella's safe.....I just love the lil' girl way too much! Thanks again everyone - I'll keep you posted! |

| I would definitely have x-rays done a week before due date. They can measure the skulls and pelvic opening and determine whether a free whelp is an option. 6+ lbs is a good size for a breeding girl and she may be just fine. I would also get Miles neutered asap. 8lbs is far too large for a breeding stud. |

| News! We went to the vet and Bella is most definitely pregnant and even further along than we though. The Dr. said he thought she would be just fine delivering on her own and that she's very healthy. The pups should be here is just a few weeks, so I'm reading up on the delivery process and have also corresponded with a vet friend of mine, but if anyone has any additional information they can provide about any of their own experiences it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your support! Be well, Miles and Bella's Mommy |
