| Flea Collars I saw my little one itching a bit too much these past couple of days and purchased a flea and tick collar from Hartz. It was a big rubber collar. I was wondering if this is at all bad for the dog, does it ruin their fur or hurt their skin? I don't know why, but I'm a little concerned. What do you prefer for flea prevention? Thanks! |

| Flea collars are useless! Imagine putting one of those around your neck and smelling the chemicals all the time. Then imagine the chemicals causing cancer to your poor little dog. There are many products on the market for fleas that are so much safer for your dog. Call and ask your vet what he would recommend. For such a small dog they are pretty cheap and will keep the little critters off your baby for up to 30 days and they kill the eggs too! |

| OMG the cancer bit was the deal breaker for me. I will take it off the minute she lets me get a hold of her. What do you suggest? |

| I like Advantage, but there are many on the markets today that are just as good. They work in the blood stream, even though they are put on the dogs shoulders. The fleas bite the dog and die within an hour or so. You can get it from the vet, it is well worth the price. |

| Well the advantix goes by weight. The one peanut has is like 1-10 lbs, I am sure only using it when it is warm would be fine, but it works by stuff you put on their skin goes into their blood...so i dont know I like to know peanut is protected with it all year long. Nothing has ever happened to him.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | When Max was about 1 y/o, ( and before I found YT) I bought one for him, the smell was so strong, that at night I took it off him and left it on my nightstand, in the morning, the chemicals on the collar, had removed the varnish, and left a mark that I have not been able to fix.No collar for us

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | First off Hartz is a horrible horrible company when it comes to producing products like flea and tick meds. So many dogs get sick from them. Second, flea collard are gross. with dogs so small the smell and chemicals just get everywhere. You can't snuggle with your pup because the collar just overpowers them and it gets all over you. Its not safe for these little guys either because it can get caught in there mouths so it can choke them plus they can get an overdose of the chemical orally. I'd ask your vet for flea and tick meds. I use Frontline on my dog and Revolution on my cat. You do not have to use the whole tube on our little yorkies. I eyeball it and use half a tube. I give one drop at a time until i feel half has be given. Oh, and depending on how bad fleas are in your area will determine if you need to use it all year round or just in the warmer months (april-november). Ticks hibernate in the winter, fleas do not. Fleas will come inside during the winter where its warmer so if fleas are bad in your area then i would continue to use the meds year round.

| HartzVictims.org - One More Victim is One Too Many We don't use Hartz at all. Something like Frontline or Advantage that you get from your vet would be quite a bit safer.

| The collar has been taken off, thank god. My uncle's friend works for Hartz so I got a ton of free stuff and I decided to use it, good thing I didn't for too long. I'm thinking of getting Advantage. Can I give the heartwork meds (Heartguard) and Advantage on the same day so I remember? |

| Okay I will. I give Bella her HeartGuard on the 21st of every month and I'll give her her Advantage as soon as I get it. I bought from PetCareRX! Got a great deal because as a Bank of America associate, we got 10% off, then with the Add it Up Program with BOA, i got an additional 16% off! Yipee! It is really expensive thought. I bought the 12 month. |
