| giving glucosamine as a preventative Has anyone done any research, or has anyone started their puppies on glucosamine/chondroitan as a preventative to ward off joint damage?...G/D actually builds cartilage, so I have been thinking about starting Apple on it...She is 6 months old...I gave it to my mastiff, that had hip dysplasia, but that was for inflammation, and to help build cartilage, after she was diagnosed w/hip dysplasia...I talked w/the company I buy my liquid G/D, and they said I could give her 1/32 tsp. (1 ml.) a day...that's the dose for 0-10 lb dogs....I might go to the vet, tomorrow, for Apple's rabies shot, and I will ask them about it, but thought I'd see what has been discussed/used on here? Thanks, Maggie & Apple |

The regular strength Cosequin is excellent for small dogs at cats. You must give enough glucosamine to see results. Most supplements don't contain enough to have any theraputic value. A dog under ten pounds needs about 300 mg per day. | |

| I think I'll follow my vet's instructions, who is a Canine Reproduction and Nutrition Specialists, as you can overdose.

| I wasn't contradicting you.....I was agreeing with you! The Cosequin for cats and small dogs is the perfect dosage for dogs under ten pounds per my vet. |

| No problem, I didn't think you were contridicting me, just stating my vet's instructions. The other thing he's definately against is Missing Link, to many trace minerals. What he does recommend if you're having dry coat and skin problems is Flax Seed Oil, very natural and is digested through the body within 24 hours.

| You can find it at Petsmart, Petco or most any animal supply store.
