| Is Nutro causing him to itch?? Ok experts... I just read and posted a question on another thread about this,,but hope for more answers Im posting this: About a month ago I switched from Eukanuba to Nutro- lamba rice,,, which he loves ( i did mix it) But ,in the last 2 weeks he has been rubbing up along the couch, alot, and when you touch his back above his rear end,,he stops and throws his head back like he loves it,,, I thought maybe I found his "G" spot,, cause he gets so into it,,, Now Im wondering,,is he itching because of the new food?? Anyone else experience this,or have any input,,, would be appreciated...... thanks.

| I don't know, Rhonda. It's really hard to say what precisely is causing the itch. Generally, they aren't allergic to lamb, but I have read that since it has become so popular that more and more dogs are showing allergic reactions to it... I read somewhere yesterday that you can add a teaspoon of baking soda to oatmeal shampoo to stop itch.

| You know, I used to feed my dogs nutro and they all have itching problems. But I dont feed them that anymore and they still do(but not as much) so I dont think I can blame nutro for it. But It does make me wonder.....

| Thanks for info.,,., I just gave him an oatmeal bath (bath day Sunday) and I checked to see if maybe he had a lone flea or something,,,I saw nothing,,, I is time for his frontline, but I was holding out,,, since I have NEVER seen a flea,,but if it keeps up maybe I'll apply one and see if that helps... Otherwise I dont know what his deal is... It is seriously, only on the top of his back,,, right above his but,,, you touch it and he just flops down and head rolls back and he makes groaning noises, like hes in heaven,,, and the tunning along the couch trying to rub that area...... strange! but thanx for the opinions.

| If anything, I would say that Eukanuba would make Bailey itch. I had Stewie on a mix of Euk & Nutro, then I switched from puppy food to Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul.

| Nutro is what we switched our mutt to when the Prednisone he was taking for his allergies just got to be too much for him. We realized the drug was really hurting so we started searching for something else. The clerk at the Pet Supply store in Tulsa recommended it. It was day and night! No more itching or hot spots for the rest of his life! He had been plagued with hot spots and itching for the first 4 years. After we switched to Nutro, he was a different dog and finally passed peacefully away years later. BUT that was a long time ago. The Nutro formulas could have changed. |

| well ,STILL ITCHING,,, he's about to drive me nuts! I gave him a bath Sun,, no signs at all of fleas,,, so I held out on the frontline.... well ,yesterday my boyfriend saw one ,,,, so, I thought OK that IS the problem,, so last night applied the fronline,, so he has till 5 o'clock today,,to STRAIGHTEN up!! LOL.... no, I swear he scratched more after I applied it -than before... So, hopefully by 5 today the itching will be gone,, I hope, otherwise I dont know what it is,,and we will be off to the vet,, It has to be irritating him,,, its irritating me!

| an allergy? Sounds like an allergy to me. The vet should be able to help your baby. If it's an allergy he can scratch and bite sores in himself before long. They ooze and smell funny and they MUST hurt! You gott get that under control |

| We also feed our little one Nutro Lamb and Rice. We use the dry and wet food mixed. Capone itches too and it seemed to be getting worse. I took him into the groomer a couple days ago for a medicated bath and it didn't seem to help. My husband wrote it off that he is a dog and he is going to itch. I thought it could just be the dry weather we have in California. I never thought it could be his food causing it. This is good to know.

I know u worry about that itching! My younger yorkie, Crystal, went thru some bad scratching at one time. We were told to give her benadryl to get it under control. She would actually get hives. She is on Nutro also but we see a definite difference in the shine of her coat. Try a tea tree oil treatment. They usually work! | |
