| Kennel Cough Shot?? The "groomer" said for Lily to have a "Kennel Cough Shot" before she can be groomed again? She was a year old March 12 and has had all her shots, spayed and everything but hasn't had the Kennel Cough Shot?? Is there any special thing I should watch for when getting this shot? I hate for her to have to have shots!! She got so sick when she was spayed I thought she was going to DIE!! THANKS |

| I always ask my vet to give the bordetella (kennel cough) shot to my dogs with their annual shots. Just make sure she isn't sneezing or coughing before she get it and she'll be fine. |

| There is really no way around it if you don't groom yourself. The shot can cause kennel cough (said to be mild). If you are nervous, the vet can give Benadryl before.

| The bordatello can actually give the dog kennel cough so I think thats the worst that can happen. The first time my Jewels got it though she had a slight reaction and was sore and didnt want to be picked up. But that can happen with any shot

| Hey guys, do you recommend giving bordatella to a puppy? Bailey is just 13 weeks and I was considering giving it to her at 16 weeks (she already has to have a set and rabies then). I won't board her, but she will be taken to groomers. Or is it better to wait until before she will be groomed and give it then?

| I would get it done separate from the other shots. My Jewels had it in the combo of shots and she had a reaction

It is okay to give bordatella at 16 weeks but I'd personally put it off.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | In all the places i've worked and been too the bordatella vaccine is intranasal. you can get it done as a vaccine but its easiest to just squirt it up the nose. they don't need the whole thing so its ok if they happen to sneeze or drip some out after its given. if your dog is going to the groomer or the dog park frequently then its a good thing to get. edit: it needs to be given two weeks before grooming or boarding if its given for the first time otherwise it won't work.
