Donating YT 500 Club Member | Anyone know about eggs? Does anyone know if it's okay to give a Yorkie some boiled or scrambled egg? We're new to Yorkies. Ours is a rather picky eater so far and we're trying to widen her food list but don't want to start with something she shouldn't have. Thanks for any responses. |

| Eggs are wonderful occasionally. Just remember that a commercial diet meets all of her nutritional needs. If the added human food is more than 20% of her diet you will have to add supplements. |

| I give Mimi & Momo the white part of hard boiled eggs (they love it), heard that the yolk has too much fat & isn't good for them. Here's a link on YT: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-eggs-dog.html

You can also try giving your baby yogurt or cottage cheese (Max loves this mixed with his kibble - afternoon snack). What kind of food is your baby currently eating? Does Taffy seem to like it? What kinds of things does she like/dislike?

I haven't been able to get her to eat kibble at all. Her breeder sent two kinds...she'll have neither. I've tried some of those that are listed as premium brands but no go UNLESS she eats the kibble I sorta stirred in the eggs. (By the way, it's too early here for me to be awake and "someone" should have reminded me to cover the cup with the egg in it. I have exploded egg all over the inside of the microwave...LOL) I am not looking at her (seems to bother her Southern lady-ness...she seems to have the Scarlett O'Hara attitude of not appearing to eat evah...LOL). Oh well, she at least appeared to sniff the eggs. I stirred in a bit of cheese since she does like it but I guess I ruined it by trying to sneak in a few bits of kibble. Grrr...can you imagine any creature in my house not liking to eat??? Never would I have guessed I'd ever face a problem like this. Sometimes if I leave things out, she will go back on her own and take a nibble...not sure about the egg though. Gosh andit was so pretty. I could have won a Suzy Homemaker prize on its presentation...LOL She's been living on real chicken. She goes back to the vet on Friday (wellness check was last week) and I know he's going to ask me if I've gotten her to eat kibble yet. I've ordered another brand so keep your fingers crossed! | |

| Lucy LOVES scrambled egg - but since I reserve it for the occasions when she has a tummy upset (runny poo), she doesn't get them very often. However, a single scrambled egg does the trick - back to normal in no time.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Thanks, I think mine (Taffy) would have liked the egg if I had not included the kibble. I KNOW she ate kibble at the breeder's house! Of course, she had littermates there, too, which made it more of a necessity that she eat while it was there! By the way, I wasn't clear on my last post. She goes back to the vet this week for one of her benchmark shots. I could have gotten it last week, I guess, but I didn't want her to associate shots with getting to know her vet. | Have you tried canned food? Can't blame her on the kibble. Eggs are fine. Careful with excessive yolk because it is fatty and may lead to something like pancreatitis. That isn't to say that dogs shouldn't have yolk though because they can. It is just that she is already getting enough fat in her kibble (or maybe not) and you don't want to overload her with it.

| Eggs are good for their eyes, their coat and improves brain function. So... Cash gets scrambled eggs with some kibble and garlic on weekends. I also used to mix raw egg into the kibble for some meals. They loved it! Just a note: If your dog won't eat, don't ever fix her something better for the same meal. If you do this once, they will hold out for something better next time. Try putting the food down for 15 minutes at mealtimes and then taking it away. Give the leftover food again for the next meal - unless it has gone bad. Cash is such a fussy eater that I constantly struggle to get him to eat, but the eggs he likes.

| Another thing that just came to mind is frozen green beans. I know that some have had success in feeding this as a treat. Maybe you can try that?

| Eggs are great for them! Whenever I make myself scrambled eggs, Jackson gets some too.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Well, she wouldn't eat them yesterday but I fixed one this morning (covered the cup with plastic wrap this time), put some shredded cheese on it and she ate some of it. Hooray! Crystal, I have tried canned food but she sniifs and walks away. I bought several cans of those brands listed under the premium quality in our health forum. No go...the vet suggested a brand and although I didn't think it was one of the best, I sent my husband out to buy a couple of cans of it, too, just to be able to say I tried it when the vet asks. (Our vet is a church friend of ours and I didn't feel right asking about her not eating when I hadn't tried what he first told me.) Her gums are always pretty and pink when I check them so maybe I'm over-reacting. I never see her eat kibble but I leave it out all day and have several varieties mixed together "just in case" she prefers some brand to another. My husband thinks I am comparing her eating to dogs I had growing up (outside, large dogs) and I suppose I may be. I just know that I'm shocked at how little she is eating yet she seems to be so full of energy and so playful (except when napping). I do wonder though since she's gotten so "addicted" to the bully sticks if it is possible they could be affecting her appetite? I haven't been taking them away until they got fairly small but I also would give her another when I took it from her. I suspect she is teething and the bully sticks help. However, I have been letting her have them freely. Should I be taking them from her after a certain time of chewing? Gosh, I am soooo glad this board is here or I would be going crazy! As it is I seem to be driving everyone else crazy...LOL |

| You are right. She should be eating more than she is. I imagine she is getting full of bullys though and I'd personally cut way down or pull then unti lshe eats her food. The 10% rule goes for chews too (shouldn't get more than 10% treats or homecooked or the diet is unbalanced). How about cottage cheese or yogurt in the kibble? If she won't eat any dog food and you are concerned for her safety, you can always give in and homecook. How long do you let her go before offering her something better than kibble though? A few hours?
