| Vaccines that are needded Just found that there are some vaccines that are not reccomended fot yorkies. My Antoinette got (yesterday) the Leptospirosis vaccination. She got a reaction...she will be 6 months old nex week. These vaccination issues look like a good business for vets. I'll swith from "Preston Road Animal Hospital" to another place. Like to know: 1. What are the vaccines that these litle ones really need to have. 2. Reccomendation for a good vet in the Plano or Richardson area. Thanks Lilia

| Yep, my Jackson had a reaction to the Lepto shot! At the time, I didn't know much about different vaccines and stuff and I simply trusted the vet. Jackson came home throwing up and shaking. I took him right back in and they had to give him Benadryl and a steroid to reverse the shot. It was awful seeing him like that Never again will he get anything except the DPP. I think what they NEED is definitely distemper, parvo and the other "P" that I can't think of right now, lol

| Rabies has to be given according to your state's laws. Distemper, parvo and hepatitis are core vaccines (some don't think hepatitis is but I do). That doesn't mean they need to be given yearly though. Bordatella is required if you are going to board or have pup groomed. Lepto and corona are rarely truly needed for inside dogs and they usually should be avoided. Lepto can be a hard call. Same for lymes vaccine. Giardia vaccine and dental disease vaccine I personally would not do. Parainfluenza is pretty safe and comes with the DHP usually. It is not a core vaccine though.

| i highly recommend dr marcum at animal medical surgical hospital of frisco (it is also on preston rd just north of stonebriar mall - between wade and stonebrook/rolater road). i quizzed him sooooo much when i took bree in. he does not give lepto or corona and knows a lot about small breeds. he takes the time to talk to you as much as you want and is wonderful. the only thing i disagree with is he does really push bordatella and i only give that to miss buffey because she is the only one who gets professionally groomed and they require it i always make sure to ask for him and see him. i had an issue with one of the other vets there giving bree a puppy shot (which was not needed - she already had all of hers) and rabies at the same time . he got an earful from me the next time i was in! he was very understanding about where i was coming from and made a huge note in my file that this NOT happen again

| The general consensus is that they need to be on something for it. The most common types are Interceptor, Sentinel, Heartgard, Heartgard Plus, Trihart, Revolution and Advantage Multi. I would only consider the first four in the list avoid.

| A snap test should always be done before starting any heartworm medication. |
