| Vet says neuter at 7 mo??? OK, we have a puppy, Simon, who is now 15 weeks old. He has been humping occasionally a stuffed airplane and his plush squirrel stump for about 3-4 weeks now. I've read it is a domination thing vs. sexual. Anyway, we just saw the vet for our 3rd set of shots. I mentioned to the vet that he is humping and cocking his leg and I wanted to find out about neutering him. Vet says he likes to wait until 7 months because usually they need to get some baby teeth out as well. Rather than putting them under twice, he likes to do it all in one full swoop. So, question is, wait and do it all at once, or get him neutered now and worry about the teeth later? We live in an apartment on the 3rd floor. He is learning to use a pee pad and is doing quite well, until he is out and about when we play fetch, then he just goes wherever. He's 2lb. 15oz. so it's not alot when he does go. The vet says that neutering will not necessarily stop the leg cocking, but I've read that more often than not, it will. From everything that I've read, it seems that neutering is recommended sooner than later. I need some advice please. Vet says he will neuter next week if I want, but he recommends waiting..... |

| Wait til 7/8 months to neuter & take out baby teeth if needed (most likely, for a Yorkie, you will). It sounds like you have a good vet.

| What is more important to you? It was very important to me that I not have another marker in the house. I have had male dogs all my life and the two I have now (besides Max) mark up a storm. SO I had Max neutered before he learned to lift his leg. I have never trained on pads tho..so I have no idea if that changes things for you at all...

| Good vet I would absolutely wait until at least 6 months to neuter. I had Ranger neutered at 6 1/2 months, and he DOES NOT mark, in or outside. I got Ryder at 14 months old, and had him neutered soon after. He does not mark inside either. He will most likely need a few teeth pulled so it is a really good idea to wait and do it all at once
