| something wierd on Sammy's neck... There is something very strange looking on my dog's neck. It is attached to his skin. it is about 1/4 inch big and kinda looks like a cacoon? and oval shaped. but its greyish. It doesn't look alive, just like its sitting there. I have no idea what it is and going to the vet this morning, unless you have any ideas. I've never seen anything like it. |

| it doesn't appear to have legs, unless I just can't see them. I guess it could be a tick? But it doesn't even have a head! I know this probably sounds stupid....I have never even seen a tick what looks like when its been latched on. |

| It's a tick. You can't see their legs because it's so swollen. Engorged ticks look like plump grayish raisons.

| ok, i did just look up pcitures online and it probably definetely is a tick. I'm taking him to the vet anyway to have them take it off, i don't want to end up dismembering it and leaving the head in-i've never had to remove a tick, better for me to watch someone do it first. Its unbeleivable that 2 minutes in the yard to poop and he got one. I did not have this problem last year...will they want to run tests, or usually only if they have symptoms? |

| This reminded me of the first time I saw an "grey" tick and how grossed out I was.

| Yep, I was gonna say a tick, but you figured it out. Did you remove it? Sophie had one about 2 weeks ago. I smothered it with Neosporine first and then waited about 15 min. Went in with a tweezers and got as close to her skin as possible and pulled straight up. I put more Neo on and then for a few days after that. As it will leave a little bloody scab. |

| Glad your saga is over. I guess you'll have to check him out every time he comes back in. Those things are certainily nasty. Poor baby.

| We live in Missouri seems to be tick capitol among other things lol the best thing we have found to get rid of them is call diazinon crystals. You sprinkle them on the yard then water it. Lasts all summer. Works much better than the sprays because they wash away quickly. |
