Yorkie Yakker | Neuturing I was just wondering if most of you have your dogs neutured or spayed ? I just made an appointment for Bailey to be neutured next month and was wondering if it is really necessary and if there are actually any health risks to having him neutured? |

| I would suggest getting blood work done. When I worked at a vet clinic, there was a tiny yorkie that came in to be spayed and they did the bloodwork and found out she had a liver shunt. So, I had the bloodwork done on my Chloe, and thank god she didn't have anything wrong with her. But, its always better safe, than sorry. If you don't have him neutered then he will probably start marking his territory, and if you don't have him neutered or spayed they can get certain cancers in the future and other problems. I read that somewhere, but I might be wrong.. if so then someone can correct me.

| Both of mine were spayed and neutered without any problems. Its best to get it done before they start annoying habits like marking. I got it done before Chaqchi started lifting his leg and he doesnt mark at all.

| My vet, www.thepetwhisperer.com, doesn't think it is necessary as a matter of course and feels that, if possible, all dogs are better off if left with all their "PARTS". He does agree that neutering is necessary if you cannot prevent unwnted pregnancies or a male dog is "marking" so badly that he is impossible to live with. I have seen even neutered males who mark so neutering is not an absolute cure for this behavior nd bellybands will usually take care of this nuisance. I would talk to a homepathic vet just for a second opinion before making the final decision for your guy. |

| I'm getting my little guy neutered tomorrow. He's 7 months & weighs 4lbs. I'm so scared and nervous, but I'm sure it will be ok. I'm getting him neutered because it does help with preventing alot of cancers when their older and with the marking. Plus I plan on getting a female in a couple of months and I don't want to breed, so this will definatly prevent it. Just my thoughts though. |

| Well, my little baby got neutered & his baby teeth pulled this morning. And I called and checked on him like an hour after I dropped him off! I couldn't stand it any longer!! And they said he is doing fine, so I am sooooooooooo relieved! He has to stay overnight tonight, which sucks. I can't wait to pick him up in the morning. I'm going to have a really big greenie waiting for him when he gets home! |

| Riley was neutered about six weeks ago. He did fine, but stayed at the vet's for two days because I was having surgery at the same time on the same day! (How's that for togetherness with your dog?) The vet said I should keep him from running or jumping for about a week so he wouldn't tear his stitches. Obviously my vet has never had a young Yorkie! Since I was mostly sleeping, recovering from my surgery, he had no choice but to do the same. He absolutely loves those twisted chewies called Flossies, and they kept him quiet and entertained until we were both well enough to resume our walks and games of fetch. |

| The vet told me that his stitches would be on the inside so I wouldn't have to worry about him messing with them. I'm very glad for that. That really sucks about you having surgery at the same time as him! I had surgery about 2 wks ago and the same day, while I was gone, he jumped off the couch and sprained his leg! He limped for like 10 days! My mom was watching him & my baby while I was gone and she felt so bad cause it happened while she was there. But he's better now, so that's all that matters! |

| Sometimes the baby teeth all don't fall out on their own though. That's why I didn't want to take a chance, cause I'm not putting him under twice. At my vet its costing me $95 for the neuter & teeth pull. So that's not too bad. Anyways, I'm on my way to pick him up right now! I can't wait to see him!! And I'm sure your Lucky will be fine also! |

| Cowboy(7mo. - 2.6lbs.)was neutered and had 3 teeth pulled on Wednesday. He did great. He wants to run and chase the cat and my other 2 dogs. He is eating like crazy. He never used to eat. The vet told me to keep him quiet and calm for 5-10 days. How long did it take for your pups to heal completely? Did you all keep them confined for 5-10 days? Just wondering. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
