| nutri cal I finally went to purchase nutri-cal for Charlie. He is 7 months and 5lbs. Has been losing appetite and energy. I gave him a tiny amount on my fingertip every morning. It has help a lot with his appetite. He has been eating more. He used to go the whole day without eating. NOw he is eating once a day. He eat about 1 cup nb dry kibble with nb turkey roll. His water intake has been the same. He drinks lots of water about 1 1/2 cups a day. How much nutri cal do you give your little one? |

| Wow a cup of kibble a day is pretty good. All three of my dogs never eat more than 1/2 cup a day each, and one is 6 lbs. I give between 1/2 inch and 1 inch Nutri-Cal when I use it, which isn't often. But, like you, I use it when their appetites lag a little or there is another reason (like an upset tummy).

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You've posted several times now about this poor baby's issues - has he yet been to the vet??? Loss of appetite and lethargy can be very bad signs in a dog...I guess I don't understand why you won't take this baby to a vet when he has so many issues, according to your posts. I'm concerned for your Charlie bc you keep posting about health issues, but you've also posted that you won't take him to see a vet. If money is an issue, what about Care Credit?

| thanks everyone for your concern. I greatly appreciate it. I know you probably think i am a bad mommy but i couldn't take him before b/c i am unemploy and can't afford it. He is up to date with all his shots at petco except for the rabies shot which he will be getting in april. However, we do have an appointment next friday. Anyways, he is doing fine. Full of energy again. I brought nutri-cal for him b/c the weather has been cold here lately and the cold weather seems to affect his appetite and he is teething. After I gave him the nutri-cal and he began eating again. Just a little tiny drop of nutri-cal. Far from the recommended amount. Charlie is free fed. His food and water are out all day for him so he can eat whenever he is hungry. He was eating fine..then it got cold and he started teething. He stopped eating and only wants treats (NB turkey roll) and frozen green beans. I got worry that he might have hypoglycemia so i got the nutri-cal. Like I said I gave him a tiny tiny amount on my fingertip. After nutri-cal, he seems to have more energy and started eating again. Now, he likes to eat once in afternoon (1 cup) and won't touch his food bowl again even if there is food in it. He will drink throughout the day. I feed him in the evening through training with the NB turkey roll and green beans. I tried training him with the NB kibble but he spit them out so now I only use NB turkey roll. Our banana yorkie yummies is coming soon. So we are pretty excited. |

| I know nobody thinks i am a bad mommy. Sometimes i think i am. Anyways, that is the great thing about YT is that you can come and here for advice. Anyways, nancy how much green beans do you feed your furbaby? I read somewhere that if you feed too much green beans it can take away their appetite and cause loose stool. I feed him about 2-3 whole green beans a day. I break them off into little pieces and give them to him throughout the day and mostly at night for training. His stool is fine. Hopefully, that is not too much. |

The frozen ones, I believed are already steamed and don't taste raw.

| Something just doesn't seem right with your pup. A five-month-old shouldn't need Nutrical to stimulate the appetite or stop lethargy. The average water intake is about an ounce per pound per day. So he should drink about 5 ounces or between 1/2 and 3/4 cup per day. Did you say he drinks about 1.5 cups per day? That is a symptoms of liver shunt as is lethargy and inappetence. Your pup really does need to see a vet as soon as possible. Have you tried canned food to entice his appetite? It is good that he is eating now but 1 cup at 1 sitting for a small puppy is way too much in his stomach at once.

| Giving too much Nutri-cal can cause diarrhea, & sometimes, giving a tiny amount can increase appetite. Just like when we humans can eat sugary things like candy or ice cream & still feel hungry after the sugar rush...I've got to try the green beans, they're high in fiber, right?
