| Average proce for spay? Chloe finished her puppy shots today and we talked to the vet about her spay. They recommended early May for her. We were quoted about $350 which includes the $80 blood work and tests before the surgery. My parents had payed alot less for their dogs at a different vet but I would really like Chloe to get it done at the vet I have been going to that we know well. Does that price sound about right or a little steep?? Just curious.. They said the blood work was optional and a pre-caution. I want to do it anyways though. Did you all do it?

| we just got dolly done with laser and it was $400 with pre-op bloodwork and take home pain meds. it really depends a lot on the area you are from. maybe get quotes from a few nearby vets with good reviews! even though pre-up blood work is optional at your vet, you should def. get them done before the surgery to make sure your pup is healthy enough to go under.

| I would totally get the bloodwork done prior to surgery. Did the vet tell you anything about having any remaining baby teeth extracted at the time of her spay too? See, the vet I go to are great! Fiona was just out of heat when she got spayed, and the total price for me was $219.00, that included blood work, one baby tooth extraction, and her medications. The three animal hospitals I worked at were anywhere from 300-400. Do you know if your vet will give your puppy a pain patch? its pretty much a fentanyl patch that they put on her ribcage to make it less painful for her. Our one vet would use those all the time, other two vets I worked with didnt use them unless it was nessa.

| That sounds very fair. Ellie's old vet office does lower cost spay/neuter, so it was about $150ish plus blood work.

| Bailey's was $250 which included blood work and laser upgrade. Another $40 for the microchip and about $10 each for baby teeth extraction. (Bloodwork was not optional - but the laser was)

| My Chloe's shot prices were about what you listed above. The list I posted was for the spay and all that goes along with that... I have heard that to neuter a male is less expensive than spaying a female.

| thats about the going rate here in calif. But my vet participates in spay and neuter month and is a state funded thing. During that month spay's are $65 for everything except extra teeth. they charged $10 a tooth. They pulled 5 teeth ( which they gave me) and charged me $20 so I walked out paying $85 I couldn't pay the $350 so this was a God send for me. maybe you could ask around to see if they have anything like that in your area. |

Barbituates are no good - ask your vet. No one uses them any more, but just in case, ask! Our vet charges $50 for the spay, everything else is extra (bloodwork, etc), but the spay itself, with anesthesia is $50. But, she's the lest expensive vet I have ever talked to (ever).
